Hilux gear stick rotates
Hi there I am writing this post as I need some help as my gear stick started playing up and became very loose I still managed to drive it by turning the gear stick to hold it tight when changing gears. But now the whole stick has come out!! Is this a serious problem? I have taking acouple of photos and hope someone can provide me with information on how to fix it... Cheers any help will be much appreciated.
Re: Hilux gear stick rotates
well thats odd, both bush and socket are gone (theres often bits left) and the pins are gone.
heavy duty bushes from marlin tho a few locals do sell them. not sure about the pins, might have to make something or find a new housing.

Oh that dose not sound good. The bushings wouldn't be a problem. Do the pins hold the stick in? Ha wounded how they would of fell out?
Re: Hilux gear stick rotates
Yep, as Tweake stated there should be two pins in the housing that locate the lever and also a bush on ball at the end of the lever and a second bush that the lager cup rotates on.

The pins have most likely snapped off due to there not being any bushes and the pins being hit by the lever when you change gears, may pay to drop your gearbox oil and see what comes out for peace of mind

the pins stop the stick from turning around. usually very hard to get the pins out.
maybe you can thread the housing and screw some bolts in.

start of this video shows you what should be in there, except the bottom bush.
The other is referred to as a shifter seat bush, which is mentioned in the trade me ad, so they should also have them.

looking at your photo a bit closer it almost looks like at least one pin has come free as there appears to be a hole in the side of the housing on the side at the bottom of the picture . they would fall outwards not in if they came loose.
Edit, also see that NZAD stock the seat bushes.
Not sure but I think this is the one you require

Re: Hilux gear stick rotates
I did my gearbox lately and just got the bushes from the Toyota dealer, weren't a bad price. I didnt need pins tho.
Re: Hilux gear stick rotates
Just get a good second hand one and bolt it on.
