Finally got my Pajero

Post by ToyZuki »

So after a great deal of debate and help from people on here, i finally bought a bog standard 3.5 Auto Pajero which is what I wanted from the start. Really clean example, no rust, barely any scratches or dents, been really well looked after.

Thanks to the people who gave me advice with the pajero's.

So heres what I started with.

Bought some 33x12.5 tyres from Hamilton so bit if a trip down there. 5 tyres just and i mean just fit in a SWB Pajero.

Here they are fitted with the side steps removed.

Removed the front mud flaps and the metal bracket that supports the bottom of the front bumper. Cracked the torsions bars about 10mm and they dont touch anything. The great thing about the 3.5 auto is that it handles the 33s on the road brilliantly. Just need to see what its like offroad now.

Next on the list is a front air locker and lockrite or equivalent for the rear. And take the anchor off the back and fit a pintle hook in its place.

Very nice.

Maybe look for a complete rear axle/housing with a factory locker form a 3 litre Paj and swap?

Nice truck! Is that an 833 as a spare? Sell that to fund the rest of the build haha.

I would but I like the sound of the 3.5 axle as they are stronger. Also the price people want for the axle/housing with a factory locker is crazy when its not that strong. Would rather put a mechanical diff lock in the rear and airlocker up front.

Yep thats my spare, came with the 5 tyres I bought.

Sorry for the slack reply guys.

Not sure what offset the rims are, they came with the tyres but I will have a look when i get a chance.

And Ive been to the dunes a few times and tried out the articulation and really glad to say that the tyres havent touched ones. Im so happy with that as these arent just 33s they are 12.5 wide 33s and somehow touch nothing. I think i got a good example but the Paj has plenty of power and no problem at all turning those tyres. So glad i went for the 3.5

I've got a factory locker for the 3.5l but don't have the half shafts for it. Easiest thing to do is just tighten up the LSD that's in there now. Some of the 2.8 diesels had 4.9 ratio if you wanted to get the gearing back with the 33" tyres. Worth the bother if you are fitting lockers (whilst the diff is out). You'll like the 3.5l power.
May the force be with you.

Ya the fuel suffered abit when the 33s went on due to weight of them but again I must have a good one as mine is way better than the 5km/L Ive read some people reporting.

Ya I really want a front locker for mine and tighten the LSD. How hard is the LSD to tighten?

Some have said move to 4.9 but others have said its barely worth the hassle.
