80 series ignition feed
80 series ignition feed
Hi all.
I am looking for a 12V ignition feed in the engine bay of my 80 series diesel truck.
It is only required for energising a relay but I do not want to go through the firewall if I can avoid it.
Has any one an idea where one is?
PS. I have had a short poke around with a multimeter but had no luck.

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Alternator trigger wire??
Re: 80 series ignition feed
what exactly are you trying to do? as I have the fsm but its a stab in the dark to help you..
Re: 80 series ignition feed
there is a fuse box in the engine bay that has a ign side to it and a connector.
Tony.

Cheers for the input guys, I have some work to do tomorrow.

Re: 80 series ignition feed
make sure there isn't a high drain on that circuit otherwise it could cause starting issues
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)
Re: 80 series ignition feed
as Mudde1 said there is a black boxmounted on the drivers side wing about 6" back from the battery box

I need the ignition wire to operate a relay or another wire that comes alive only when the engine is running.
This relay then powers a 12V feed to the caravan to keep the fridge running when in transit.

I do not have a fuse box on the drivers side that I can see, but there is one on the passenger side, but no ignition wire in there.
Here is a pic of said box.

It's activating a relay, hardly high drain.

Hook onto the charge fuse, It is the warning light part of the alternator wiring. It will come live with the engine running.
Or you could get a VSR

This is right... use this little black box. ill take a pic of it if you need to? take the lid off and it has acc, battery points etc
Re: 80 series ignition feed
have taken a pic and spoken to pete, was wondering if its because his is a 24v

Yes I may have to look further into the charge fuse.
A VSR is of no use for running the caravan fridge whilst in transit I'm afraid.

Could you not use that for the trigger on a relay that could run the fridge ?
Re: 80 series ignition feed
Seems I do not have this fuse box between the air cleaner and battery.
The 24Valve models must be different so I will have to look further into the charge fuse idea.
Yes I had a poke around this plug too with my voltage meter but could not find what I was looking for either.

Re: 80 series ignition feed
It is all sorted and wired up.
I tapped onto the charge fuse under the fuse box. What a mission it was to get to it.
No pictures yet sorry.
The fridge operates from the truck now as it should.

Alternater system

Re: 80 series ignition feed
Well it seems using the charge fuse was not the way to go. Driving to work i noticed the instrument lights for the turbo and the cam belt were glowing evr so slightly. I unpluged the feed wire fron the charge fuse to the relay and these lights went out.
I am now thinking I may have to either put a switch inside the cabin to manually turn this relay or find the ignition wire in there?
Back to the drawing board, humph.

Maybe or i may use an mini electronic relay i have to run the big relay. Well be naff alk current draw and shouldnt upset the charging system.

Re: 80 series ignition feed
Use the ciggy to trigger the relay.
Ive used this several times for axualry lights. Ac transformers. Air compressors etc

Cheers guys. I will try my electronic relay first and if that fails, then I'll look at the ciggy feed etc.

Manual fuel pump?be ign to shutoff solenoid
,or ign to reverse /inhibitor switch wiring..should be a few others around..or just tap a ign fused feed on ign switch or from fuse box
