1985 hilux ln65

Post by Utbnb »

Thank you in advance for anyone that has any valuable input towards my issue.
I have this tidy ole truck that I really enjoy. Has no rust no dents not even many scratches. As of recent I have installed a new deck, new radiator, new water pump, new hoses, new dizzy and plugs and have purchased a power steering unit to install.
The problem is I have just cracked the head I suspect.
Compression 140.150.150.210, white steam from exhaust, coolant blowing into resivour.

Now do I purchase a new 3y replacment engine for $2200. Should I repower with a 3.8 commy motor which I have the donor car or Should I put a diesel in it?

Seeking advice and thoughts.

3rz-fe motor.
Factory Toyota
Bolts up to your existing gearbox.
Just need to make new engine mounts, plus wiring etc, but easier than a comy 6.

These pop up on trade me now n then for the same price as a comy 6..

Comy 6 you need to buy an adaptor kit =$2000
3rz you dont

Have stripped down the old 3y and it appears that only the head gasket. I'm thinking as I have invested the money in the cooling system this is the best logical option at present.

If anyone is interested in a vp commy motor complete let me know. Interested in swaps, quad bike, auxiliary outboard, or $$$$

I had a 4Y in my old girl, not a bad motor at all really, gutless and thirsty like any old carb donk, but always went, pretty bulletproof and not much power to damage the rest of the drivetrain its just mastering how to make use of it. Converted it to efi in the end as the carb was well knackered. Still followed the rough trucks most places they went with a few winch pulls
