hey guys, fitted an external trans cooler to my surf and now im having a problem of the trans not heating up for a long period. probably a good 10km before i get the final overdrive.
Can anyone tell me is there a way around this, on other vehicles ive put a resistor in to trick the temp so it always thinks its running at the right temp is this possible on the surf if so is there any guides on here anyone knows of?
cheers.
kzn130 surf 1kz auto trans how to trick temp ?
Re: kzn130 surf 1kz auto trans how to trick temp ?
have you hooked the new external trans cooler up before the fluid passes through the factory cooler in the radiator
Re: kzn130 surf 1kz auto trans how to trick temp ?
cheers zukmeista thats a good idea, will try resistor trick first see if that works. just need to know what resistance is on the temp switch when its warm got to be on the net somewhere!
no derk i have completely bypassed the radiator as i have a manual radiator fitted. this is how my problems arose, now theres no heat in there and taking far to long to warm up.
i done a manual conversion on a falcon once, cut the wires to temp sensor on auto trans and put in a resistor to trick ecu into thinking auto trans was still there and warm so car would run fine. looking to do something along these lines but on a surf

Lock up/overdrive runs off engine temp sensor. The trans temp sensor is just there for the trans over temp light.

Interesting, Is this before or after the sensor? I have had the temp gauge mod done so if this is the case and its after the gauge then thats my problem?? funny because its only started since putting trans on stand alone trans cooler....??
Re: kzn130 surf 1kz auto trans how to trick temp ?
The temp guage has it's own sensor. The ecu runs off a different sensor. Sounds like you may need a new thermostat I haven't seen a sensor fail, maybe with the trans oil running in the radiator before was enough to heat the engine coolant just enough.

could be a sensor, thermostat is brand new. the temp gauge on dash is in a different place every time i get final o/d so thats defiantly separate.
where would i find this "ecu temp sensor"

Will price one up locally, maybe an option for the right price
