EGT Temps Pre & Post Turbo

Post by Drager47 »

Hey guys, I have a 1hdt 80 series with water to air intercooler and just had on the dyno and the fuel to air ratios good at 16psi but still getting high EGTs of around 650c and creeping up under load.
My EGT sensor is in the manifold pre turbo, the question I am asking is there much difference in temps pre and post turbo?

I know if you increase the boost more this also creates heat.

more fuel = higher egt.. but with more boost and fuel you can keep things in check.. I running around 750 degs at wot creeping to about 770-780 which is ok for not a long time.. I was aiming at 750 total.. also running 15-16 psi.. over boost light has come on only 2x.. also have a front mount intercooler..
I would up fuel 1/4 turn until you get to about 700-750.. it should be sweet as a every day runner at that..

yea i thought 750 was the magic max (alarm set) number PRE turbo. thats what i ran my td27t to with no troubles.

and from all the hours of reading i did 150-200 deg C is lost through the turbine so 550-600 max POST turbo.

every engine is different though.

Has anyone ever personally actually melted a piston/sent one out the block and then looked at the EGT gauge and gone "yup, 900 is too high"? i.e. Is there anyone here who has actually learned the max temp. the hard way?
