started the cage today one step closer to being able to compete in winch challenges

still got a x on the roof bar under and above front windscreen 2 b pillars and few braces here and here will post pics feel free to let me no if heading off track ,last thing to do then can entrer challenges well hopefully

can you get that C hoop back far enough to put an X brace in it a cage is only as strong as the diagonal bracing triangulating it

yeah we are going to try just can't get it back much more as tyre comes right up there when flexed not much clearance between cab and tyre when full flexed still doing a tube tray that comes off the c hoop and a roll bar off it so might be able for a cross from that to the c hoop

next question do i need b pillars?

No b pillars shouldnt be needed you do get a bit of flex between the front and back, or make some removable ones only problem with them is the tend to pick up sticks/trees and fire them into your rear doors. not sure on NI rules but in the south rear stays need to be straight. otherwise looking good.

My cage has got the B pillar bars..although probably the difference having no rear doors they can be made right up close to the body. I've only got 1 diagonal brace tho, probably wouldn't comply to current rules anymore, likely did back when the original owner built it tho, but I think it already did its hard yards before it spent a number of years upside down in some blackberrys, for me its just going to be a casual bush toy

yeah ether way if for some silly reason it doesn't comply still wanted one for our tracks we do... still got a heap of gussets to put in don't see y it won't comply there is no way its gonna crush... yeah we thinking of making some removable b pillars but can always be done later anyway all welded up today

I think max span for oranz rules is 1200mm from memory (though I can't see it having a quick read now), which in most double cab lux exo cages means a b pillar brace is needed. There used to be a north island double cabs competing and it was told it had to have b pillar bars.

If you are building to NZ4WDA rules then you can get away with bent rear stays from memory (though it specifies a pretty heavy tube).

Just remember you have to build your cage to suit one set of rules, you can't pick and choose the bits you like.

These become confusing when you change the basic shape of the cage to accomadate something like a hardtop suzuki. On mine, the front and rear hoops are all one piece with the top side bar and B pillar bar forming a T between these with another bar across the roof inline with the B pillar bar, the diagonal brace is across the rear hoop and is tounge and gusset, all main corners are gusseted, tube is at a guess 2in OD but thickness and specs not known. Seat backrest/harness anchor bar is an H shaped bar of the same tube mounted between the front and rear factory seat belt anchor points. Someones put a lot of time in to make it well and probably to some spec but weather it still complies who knows..probably would require the addition of a diagonal front/rear stays I suppose. Anyway..thread jacking..sorry

during the week will remount radiator on tray put alloy sheet metal round tray and remount batteries in box on tray

I think your going to have some issues with your harness bar intruding into your head space.sure we all can get a doggie wof ,but first time u get pulled over you will get stickered.

Harness bar not fixed in yet was just sitting there will be further back... but trucks not road legal anyway shes a trailer queen

Got rid of the standard hilux standard x member



Modified sump for top arm

Had trouble with ground anchor mount in last challenge was in a basted of a spot made a new one with a quick release







Put abit stiffer springs in ass end

Looks like your anchor has to slide down and sideways to get it out? Was watching Nelson WC and one truck DNF'd a stage 'cause the bum of truck was hard into a bank and they couldn't drive forward to get their anchor out. Just a thought. Truck looks wicked.

I was going to make same suggestion. I have def been in positions where that anchor would not come out (assuming it slides down and left). Sorry to be a downer, but I'd move it again. Other wise looking good as!

Have it sliding up your saying.?

Ideally sliding backwards and up. Lots of times a bank will stop you from pulling it sideways (especially down) and often enough you will have trouble pulling it backwards (exiting a steep creek bank etc). So your only 100% safe option is up and out. But I guess just reversing what you have done, so it slides up would be much better than sliding down.
