td27 leaking oil feed to turbo

Post by nissandatsun »

i have just added the turbo off another td27 onto my non turbo a week ago but noticed tonight that the oil feed to the turbo is pushing past the copper washers on the banjo joint where it connects to the oil filter housing so i replaced the washers and it seemed to stop at idle but after a short drive it was leaking again, any ideas why its pressureizing so much?

how big is your return?

example, my infeed is only 4 mm internal but the return is 13mm internal diameter

Did you check the following?
-Bolt is straight.
-No thread damage on the bolt and the hole.
-Sealing faces are smooth, flat and parellel.
-Washers are the right diameter and thickness.

If they aren't new COPPER washers I remember reading on here somewhere heating them with a gas torch till Pink not red hot will soften them up enough to reset them and they seal tight. No guarantees, but I replaced my alternator (lazy swap no new hoses or fittings) only to have the oil feed to the vacuum pump on the back of it piss oil eeeverwhere. Heated up the washers, retightened and no leaks since.

Probably not a fix but food for thought.

hi all so the leak turned out to be a cracked alloy adapter between the banjo and the oil filter housing so thats all fixed now ,on a side note after + turboing it and loosing a bit of oil due to the leak i have discovered that it seems to go alot better and boost harder with a half a litre lower oil level, maybe its the increased sump pressur or what i dont know but shes going really well now
