Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
I have a TD27T, Was getting ~12L Per 100km standard.
Have been playing with fuel, 18PSI EGT's at 550~Degrees. Goes pretty fast but have been getting 20L Per 100KM
So roughly ~450KM for 80L tank

Something wrong with yours then, i got a TD27 that was a eti, put the older mechanical pump on with 12mm plunger and running a T28 garrett at 8 psi daily and 20-25 psi on weekends and still get atleast 600 kms from 70 litres.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

So, do you change the fuel between 8psi and 20psi?
Which exact turbo do you have? Is it good all through the rev range?

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
sorry that should read 18 psi dont normally use the numeric keypad bit on the keyboard.
It is a T28 Garrett ball bearing turbo with a A/R50 intake, top mount intercooled, running 32 inch silverstone and in full touring trim (highlift, recovery gear etc) it's curb wieght is 2.3 tonne with fuel and me in it.
it is still running the standard exhaust housing but goes "nato" once the boost comes on even from a stand still will light the rear's up on tarseal if ya stand on the loud pedal...not bad for an auto.
It is a 98 vintage td27 though so probably a bit fresher under the rocker cover then your average terrano motor.
in comparison the father in laws QD32 96 onwards rano (auto in this case) is getting upwards and exceeding 800 kms a tank minimum and in this case towing a 16 foot boat on a single axle trailer this example was palmerston north to north of auckland.
my mistral when i first got it was getting close to 850-900 of 65 litres open road driving till i started modifying it (was a factory ETI model)
qd32 and td27 eti models i'd recommend getting the afm cleaned a good service if you are only getting 5-600.

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
So A/R.50 Intake and A/R.64Exhaust?
Yeah its just a standard TD27T, well non ETI so no afm.. I have put the inter-cooler on, and running straight through 2.5" exhaust.
I did buy a T25/T28 turbo to fit but was too big. It compressor housing would hit the exhaust manifold even with the heat shroud off.
I turned the fuel back yesterday to save fuel, running 15PSI with not much smoke.
Do you have any pictures of the turbo? And also part number? Where did you get the dump pipe made?

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
yeah if you have seen my engine bay...haha, there aint no picture of it unless i start removing shit, the 2nd battery along with the split charging system/harness on that side aswell as the modified air filter box, oil breather recirculation system, twin fuel filters, Air compressor line's, intercooler and it's shroud oh and if that isnt enough the abs unit too. i think there is more crap on that side then the drivers side.

however i can tell you my T28 came from my wrecked 1995 R33 GTS 25T if that helps. most T28's start at A/R 60 upwards but the factory skyline one is a 50...i don't know why as even the same era SR20det silvia's run a A/R 60. maybe to do with torque/power bands in the different engines.
the reason i wanted to keep it in the family so to speak (nissan) is they (the turbo's ) even though made by garrett for different engines are interchangable housings/cartridge etc so basically t28 cartridge and compressor wheel and housing with the 98' eti's exhaust wheel and housing.
oh and a big arsed spring on the wastegate to get it to stay shut till it hits the early/mid 20's psi.
the effect this has is positive pressure even at idle giving it the distinct whistle when running, reving up and flutter coming off boost.
unfortunatley most of my vids are offroad with no exhaust on so it's mostly exhaust noise but if you watch the burtons track vid in the weekend acheivements thread you will get to see/hear it, mainly last two thirds (12:40 minutes in) of vid as i was running around in the bush recording.
basically i just unhook the extra spring and the waste gate opens up at 16-18 psi.

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
the dump pipe was a frankestien, basically a new flange, with two 3 inch exhaust tube bends, split the end of one, opened it up to the distance i needed to cover the flange then with a piece of railway iron and a hammer shaped it till it sorta resembled what i wanted, flushed the end with a grinder then welded top in bottom to the flange cutting pieces to match the split and welded them in so my usual exhaust is a giant S bend that dumps out by the crossmember with a flange for the rest of the exhaust come WOF time.

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
So its one of these?
And not one like this?
The pump ive got is standard and dont have much money to be getting it modified to the 12mm plunger.
Don't know why im getting such bad fuel economy.

Re: r50 qd32 fuel consumption
So I had a closer to look at it today as best i could, and compared it to the rest of the junk factory turbo's i have and i am incorrect in saying its R33, it is nissan but not skyline may have been off one of my SR engines from my race car i had a few years ago. how ever "the shoe fits so wear it" mentallity in me bolted it on to the TD because A it has bigger compressor side and B it fitted.
