They did not remove the diff lock, they just removed the lever as most people did not use them. I sold a surf to buy a disco, and have not looked back. heaps of little things stop working or fall off but nothing major has happened so far. it is keeped will serviced. it is a pig on gas but should be on lpg before xmas if only i can get the right sized tank to fit it as they are hard to get at the mo. 12k for a 98 is about 4k to much as there is more sellers than buyers for these things. btw they dont come standard with 3 difflocks and they are permanant 4wd whether the diff is locked or not.

I'm out Rangiora way, there is a V8 disco, looks fairly tidy but haven't been close for sale out this way, in a paddock on the side of the road with a tag in the window was under 10k - Am thinking more like 7-8. If interested I can shoot down the road and get some details if interested

It's actually got $6000 on it. Looks ok (for a LR) :D :D :D

Right you are! Trust an Amberlite to spot it! (I'm sure it used to be about 7k! and thought it had other details i.e. that it was V8 but no such details now.

Hi all,
thanks for the info about the LR and Cruiser but that LR is Too old and the Cruiser is not my cup of tea (diesel gutless) i've driver the 1kte and i'd take the v6 surf any day with diff locks or not, the point is thati am only interested in the 98 LR with difflocks,
have thought about going back to the belovered supra but i want to go anywhere so untill the fuel gets to the price of gold i will stick with the 4X4
cheers

Um, righto.. I'm thinking you drove a bad example of a 1KZ as it has only 20hp less than the 3VZ (also known as the worst v6 toyota ever made) in your surf Surf and about 50nm more torque.

I agree. I've owned both the v6 and 1kz. 1kz beats the v6 hands down....

1kte i would suppose is a typo as Toyota never made a KT series of engines. I'm pretty sure he's referring to the 1KZ-T(E) 3litre turbo diesel.

Unless he was talking about a non turbo model. Then there is a big difference.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Brother-in-law has dble cab SR5 lux with 3L TD (1KZ) and also a std one with the non turbo. The turboed is his preferred on road truck and has great performance. And while he uses that for a fair amount of off road he says the non turbo is easier and better for off road.

The two engines are engineered quite differently. one is a working engine and the othera performance diesel. The turboed one gets jumpy due to its performance and the turbo cutting in, the non turbo just keeps chugging.

Also the non turbo is sprung differently to the SR5
