Start by sealing up the distributor and plug leads.
Or tell him to slow down.

As above ^ slowing down stops so much splash.

remove the cap and apply sealant to the edge with the O-ring. make sure the O-ring is in good condition. Seal the leads to the cap also.
A spray of CRC or similar on the electrics before a trip out can help too

I have had the same issues with all Suzuki's ive owned, best solution I found was a product from CRC
its a spray rubber compound but you can remove it if required. spray over top of distributer and top of spark plug caps
as they don't always seal that well.
never had a problem again.

Plasti dip is also good for it... Spray on and let it set then it's got a rubber coating.

Na it's just like spray paint but is a rubberised coating.

CRC soft seal is the stuff you want. Just spray it everywhere around the plugs and distributed will form a rubber seal around everything

possibly, take the top off the air filter and look for water.
you can remove te piping that goes from the filter through the guard. It means the motor isn't getting cold air but it moves the intake point a bit. still not ideal though.
He would have to hit water pretty hard to get it all the way through the intake pipe.

soft seal or silicone it.
May pay to check any other pipe/hoses on the intake that may not be sealed completely that may let water in.
