Terrano needs a new turbo

Post by fh2014 »

So the hitatchi turbo in the terrano has finally given up after running at twice its factory setting for too long  and when something breaks I like to replace it with something better.

whats peoples thoughts on replacing with something like this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kinugawa-Upgrade-Turbocharger-Nissan-Terrano-TD27-Diesel-TD04L-14T-Replace-HT12-/271955112294?hash=item3f51c9b166&vxp=mtr

Seems to be a bolt on Hi-flow replacement. Obviously its the most expensive option, so is there something local and easier to source as a replacement? Ive not much experience with turbos, but after doing all of the improvements I did in my td27t thread - I'm now thinking of going qd32 intake, maybe a set of bd30 extractors (looking at wax navara thread, did these make it into nz?), this^ or a suitable hi flow turbo, plus the straight through 2.5 dump+exhaust which i've been meaning to get made for ages.

Thinking this would make for quite the formidable td27 combo with nothing but bolt on mods. It ran pretty good until the turbo broke, and have the time to make it better as its not a daily.

just use the later garrett turbo off a silvia or mistral (98 on) or terrano (96 on) they will handle as much boost as you can feed them being ball bearing and steel internals.

nope, if your turbo has the bolt on flanges for the compressor side use a qd32 if it's conventional
pipe and hose clip on compressor side use the td27eti

I've got a spare VNT one from the later ZD30 with the Dawes setup to manually control. Don't think it would bolt straight up on a QD tho

The ZD one has an oddball triangle shape flange but I can give you the manifold and the dump pipe if you wanted to copy the flanges. As well as details how the vacuum all plumbs up to make it work, can get some bloody fast spoolup with the vnt ones when adjusted properly if the fuel pump can keep up. Will get some pics when I get home for you.
