French Newbi

Post by mdesnoyelles »

Hi everybody.
I am french, 31 yo. I get my Working Holidays Visas for NZ (means i can stay 1 year and work if i want). I don't really know when I will come, but I have until July 13th 2016 to get my feet there.
I starting to figure out, a way of travelling and have a place to sleep. So I was thinking to buy and second (even more) hand 4wd fit out for sleeping and living. Like an old Landcruiser or more exotic for me L300 4wd. Anyway I have no ideas about the price and website to look for it. I need to plan my money to come to visit NZ.

For more personal description, I am a digital compositor (Movies VFX), I love snowboarding, mountains, photography, traveling (I lived in France, Canada, Germany, and Bulgaria). I am still looking for a place to settle due to my specific job.
But i want to travel for real more and more so that why I am interested into 4wd camper solution. It will be a first try. I am thinking also to prepare one myself. I also have in mind to start from Canada to Argentina one day.

That's pretty much it and what I am there.
Cheers,
Michael

Sounds like a good idea.
Trade ME is the New Zealand version of EBay,
You will find a good selection of vehicles on there for sale.
Follow this link to look at the L300 currently advertised

or if you need a more capable 4WD that you can sleep in, the 185 series Toyota Surfs are the best value for money ,as far as i know.

hey mate another good place to get a vehicle from is other travellers leaving the country if you can find any traveller forums or backpacker (hostel) blogs/bulletin boards etc you can often arrange a pickup at the airport as someone is leaving and buy their fully set up van with pots and pans and everything you'll need at a bargain price :D probably not the easiest way to find a landcruiser but most of them use vans so you may get lucky and come across a 4wd one

Personally I don't think any surf would be the best value for money. Given the basic requirements any stock lwb diesel would be good. Pajero, Wizard, Terrano, Bighorn etc

LWB, 4wd, ideal camping wagon.
I have seen this in the flesh and its pretty tidy for its age.

Yep, Toyota's can come at a premium that isn't always justified... My pick of the cheap LWB wagons would be the 3.1 diesel Isuzu Bighorn.
