transfer case removal

Post by massivenuts »

My 99 vitara is leaking where the transfer case bolts to the gearbox. Does anyone know if I can drop it off without removing the box? I guess its the seal in the attached picture?

I know that the shape before yours can be removed in the vehicle. The middle bolt at the top is the hard one to get but it can be accessed through the transfer case gear lever.

From what ive read the differences between the boxes on the older ones and mine aren't much, hydraulic clutch and something to do with spline count.
Guess ill find out.

Hydraulic clutch? Sounds interesting. They're a fairly simple unit to pull apart once out, just make sure you note the direction of the low/high engagement gear as it can go in either way but should go in one direction only. Also watch the ball detents as they drop out if your not careful.
I'm keen to hear whats been leaking.
