Hi,
I have tried to find an answer on here unsuccessfully but maybe I have searched enough.
My pto winch drum stopped free spoiling but was driving fine.
Have taken off and attempted to disassemble, however, I can't remove the drum, have been putting a lot of CRC on it but it still won't come off.
I understand there were at least two different winches for the safs, based on Nissan plans I have managed to find.
Is there a third because I think that there is a key or something holding the drum, axle, and gearbox surround together.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers Seath

Re: TD42 PTO drum seized
Have you tried to free it by attaching the hook to something and either winch in with it disengaged, or gently drive backwards?
My winch drum had seized onto the shaft due to lack of use and lubrication, so I just engaged the freespool and winched in which was enough force to free it up enough to get the drum off.

Re: TD42 PTO drum seized
Truck has been off the road for other reasons, so while it was off I took the winch off, was hoping to fix the problem before putting it back on, because I don't want to have to take it back off if that solution doesn't work. I may try doing the same thing with it off the truck any way if I can jig something up.
Thanks for that

yeah so would prefer not to break it
Re: TD42 PTO drum seized
as the above posts mate water ingress causes the shaft to rust up and bind onto the drum, just do a gentle winch with the freespool open/or removed and it'll break free easily
then you can pull it all apart and clean and lube everything up

Re: TD42 PTO drum seized
I think I was a unclear, I just wanted to know the chance of there being a key locking the drum from moving sideways off the shaft. Judging by your replies and the two assembly plans I have I guessed there wasn't. Hit it harder with a wedge between the gearbox surround and drum. It's now off.
Thanks for your help

Mine did this. I stripped it down and made a puller up out of and off cut of 12mm bar soaked it overnight with crc and off she came

Thanks Coxsy,
I have this drawing but it is not the only assembly Nissan made, mine is a little different.
