cruiser 4476cc petrol?

Post by dangerous »

hey look im a diesel turbo man through and through... but Im struggling to find a well set up cruiser in a decent condition, I have however found a 4.4 petrol from 94 price seems reasonable but above all he might take my D40 Navara off me.

So... what are these engines like, trouble free, powerful or less guts than a diesel, do you need to own a servo to run one?
straight 6 I assume carb or INJ?

The 4.5 1FZ motor is an EFI inline 6. While thirsty it at least makes a bit of power. Be aware that the earlier 80 series petrol 6cyl was the ancient 3F which was also thirsty but didn't make much power for it

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

if it is the 1fz, it is very strong, will last a long time. but thirsty, given its large capacity combined with the weight of the landcruiser.

I'm running my 1FZ on love gas and it works out at around $24-$27/100ks

The 1FZ would be very similar to the 350 that I was running in my old bj74 in both hp. and torque

Someone once said of the 1fz cruiser,if you drive it everyday, you won't want the petrol version, but if it is only used for occasional 4wd trips then you can buy the petrol model(nearly always at a discounted price- because it is petrol) and use the money saved elsewhere.

Will be thirsty but the money saved on buying a turbo diesel will keep you in fuel for a couple of years. I went through the same dilemma buying a Gu Patrol and saved a good 10 grand by going petrol rather than turbo diesel - have a motor that while thirsty is reliable, powerful, cheaper to service and I get cheaper registration with no RUC. Like you my last off road truck was a turbo diesel and would have liked to again just couldn't justify additional purchase cost.

don't be afraid to get a thorough pre purchase inspection done mate.(including compression test) It allows you to more accurately value his truck.
It could save you hundreds/thousands of $$$.

well the petrol one has some nice kit on. The diff locks, the winch, and bullbar and snorkel cost plenty to replicate.
