Finally sold my loyal 2.8 non turbo after 9 great years in partnership. Now I am after a 2000-2005 d/c 4wd sr5 1kz-Te looking at one at the moment 02 200,000km 22k new flat deck fresh sand blast and under body chassis diff springs etc sealant/paint from a dealer. Is there anything I should know about these vehichles should I bother with a compression leak down test? Does anyone know any others for sale? Wouldn't want to go beyond 200,000km too much?

In laws have a 1KZ-TE Prado and the head went at 200000km. Might want to find out if the head has been replaced, if not you'll need to budget it in. They had a complete rebuild done for ~$6000.

Thanks for that I think 1kz-te in the hilux is less prone to head cracking due beter cooling unlike the surf and maybe prado. $6000 getting up there isn't it. I just keep second guessing myself spending over 20k on somthing that has 200,000km on clock but seems to be the general going rate!

I'd be asking myself why it needed under body sand blastered and under sealed and new flat deck.
Might be ex quarry hack or farm ute used lime tracks all day maybe?

Thanks for that yes I looked into that but for value for money and comparing with others I think it's still up there and most rust if any will be mitigated for now. Iv just flown up north to look at one $13000 of receipts 30.000km ago $19k rough body omg what a dud!! Leaking oils gaskets seals no coolant have walked away. Have been told to look at the later models 2005 to now turners have a few ex lease 150,000km etc are these the same as the 2000-2005? What are the bad years of manufacture to stay away from thoughts?
