I have been changing the oil and oil filter in my 80 series every 5000kms, and just bought the next lot today to do in the weekend. Ive been using mobil delvac MX and ryco filter for the last few changes, and its good, oil still looks fine.
How often does everyone else do their changes? Is every 5000 to frequent if using a good oil?
Cheers.
1HDT service interval
Re: 1HDT service interval
I do every 10k but use Fuchs oil As they have 10 litres( I think).. Be interesting this discussion ..
Re: 1HDT service interval
i got the 1hdft, normally always use penrtie do oil every 5k and oil and filter every 10k
Re: 1HDT service interval
i do it when the oil starts to got dirty... dunno how many km's

If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
Re: 1HDT service interval
So everyone does different intervals. I might just stick to oil + filter every 5000kms, this seems to be the general consensus over the internet as well. Keeps the big ends in better shape to if replacing it regularly.
Re: 1HDT service interval
Might have to re think my intervals..
considering its only 50k into a new engine..

Re: 1HDT service interval
Toyota say 5000KM's for the 1HDT 12 valve, Oil + Filter

Re: 1HDT service interval
this is an interesting topic.. as one can only think that the intervals were.. way back then when they made the truck some 20 odd years ago and the quality of the oils were what they recommended then.. but now we have oils that can last 10k kms+++ by quite a lot.. Now I would assume that if you were using a high quality oil of today.. would you still need to change at 5k kms ? as I would assume no.. but you know.. im just a back yard wanna be mechanic..wjw wrote:Toyota say 5000KM's for the 1HDT 12 valve, Oil + Filter

Re: 1HDT service interval
tbh compared to the price of a rebuild, I'm not sure I want to risk shortening it.Big wrote:this is an interesting topic.. as one can only think that the intervals were.. way back then when they made the truck some 20 odd years ago and the quality of the oils were what they recommended then.. but now we have oils that can last 10k kms+++ by quite a lot.. Agreed, I'm leaving it at 5000ish ks.
Re: 1HDT service interval
have a look at http://www.machinerylubrication.com/Rea ... er-sensors
Wopass has part of the answer particularly for Diesels that produce alot of soot, the standard oil filter is not fine enough for the very small soot particles.
As the article says there is no single rule, very much depends on the condition of the engine and the operating conditions and how it is driven.
Cheers

when it starts getting dirty, change it, filter included.
