New member with a defender

Post by defender »

Hi guys,
my name is will, new to the forum,
Only recently have become the owner of a 1983 defender 110, bought of trade me.
she's had the ld28 conversion, a turbo fitted where i recently fitted a rather high performance aftercooler, radiator and pump setup... still tinkering around with it.

Im working out mount hutt way (summer job) and living in Christchurch,
I'm keen to do some river crossings/wading with my 110, so if anyone knows of good tracks in the area please let me know.
:D
work hard play hard.

nice wagon, ex air force from memory? good score .
I had a LD28 110 flat deck (1985 5 speed) with both turbo and non turbo.
excuse my ignorance, what is an "after cooler"?

yeah your right its ex air force,
and instead of an intercooler where outside air cools the air in the intercooler, you use a water to cool the air (takes the heat away faster and more efficiently)
so I'm using this - http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 886671.htm
piped to a secondary radiator and a 25L/min pump circulating it all around.
they use after coolers on drag racing cars, Bugatti veyron has one so i kinda thought they would be able to reduce the intake air to the lowest possible temperature thus increasing density and more POWER!

has only really been on the engine the last 2 days and i have noticed a big increase in power, truck can hit 150-60 without hassle were as before 130-40 was my top speed.
work hard play hard.

oh right. that's what i call a "water to air intercooler"(W2A). that's a great gain you have had.
They(W2A intercoolers) used to be very expensive, but the chinese made cores have really dropped the prices down, though you have to factor in the cost of radiator, pump, and wiring.
Under bonnet photos of the install when you get time please.
