If you get some mq knuckles you could go to 4.88s from terrano rear diffs. Put low pinion nugget in the front with relocated tierod

Thread-jack.
Hey Lax, in the above situation, what do you do for the rear diff? Is there a factory application in 4.88 that suits the rear of a GQ?lax2wlg wrote:If you get some mq knuckles you could go to 4.88s from terrano rear diffs. Put low pinion nugget in the front with relocated tierod

Re: WTD Safari 4.6 diffs
Definitely prefer my high pinion front, can sort rear diff with a terrano 51/11 4.63 easy enough but would still need to sort the front, aftermarket ring and pinion sets cost the earth...lax2wlg wrote:If you get some mq knuckles you could go to 4.88s from terrano rear diffs. Yes mate you can put the terrano rear 4.88 ring and pinion in the safari rear housing. Its the same unit, The only difference is the side gears, which are 33 spline in the safari rear, but 31 spline in the terrano rear. The front on the other hand would be a bolt in affair - take a 4.88 LSD from the rear of a terrano and slap it in the front of the safari. Thats of course assuming that you are using MK knuckles. Not quite high steer but a damn sight better than tie-rod under diff. Probably affects ackerman slightly, but I guess thats the tradeoff.Checkerhead wrote:Thread-jack.

Personally I dont think you would have any strength issues with a low pinion front, when you consider that people are putting high pinion rears in a Safari, ie running on the coast side of the teeth, and not having any breakage problems.
Thats just me though, thats what I would do personally. I like the gearing as low as possible.
Obviously this requires more work with setting up, etc., if you can find some 4.6s ready to go, I can see why one would do that.
