Lc electric winch

Post by mudlva »

Hi all
Im fitting a lc electric winch as a back up unit.
Q? Bench testing its winches in nice and smooth.
On winch out it draws a huge amount of current and only rotates at approx 1/2 the speed.
Ive pulled the brake out and best i can tell its not stuck lock closed.
Ideas????

Ok ive done a bit of research.
Its got some to do with the solanoid i think

Ive lost the oe remote so looking at setting up a std momentry on off on switch.
Putting 12v onto the "in" solanoid the winch operates mint.
When i do the same to the "out" solanoid the speed is well under half speed and the jumper leads show signs of massive current draw.

I removed the motor off the drum and no change.
How can i test the solanoid?
Is there any other electrical test i can do?
Does a solanoid have a current flow direction?
I have a spare unit with a differant mount and thinking that i could swap them over but dont want to stuff it up by putting the leads on the wrong post
Thoughts and ideas

No direction for current flow in a solenoid. Try putting the leads directly on the motor bypassing the solenoids. This will yell you of the problem is the motor or solenoid. Don't ask me where to put the leads though...

Have a look in this thread on ih8mud, he has the remote wiring diagram.

U need 3 jump leads to bench test. 1 for earth then positive to f1 or f2 (one of the two studs next to each other) and use 3rd lead to join the two unused studs (a and the unused f stud). Hope that makes sense.

Moving positive from f1to f2 and moving link changes direction.
