HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Tub is on and I'm starting to get the wires sorted. Still a fair way off though.
The deck has been painted but it will have to wait till I can get the truck to the deck, it's too heavy to move at home!

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
It's coming along nicely now. I have got the cab on and the dash finished but I'm still waiting for the doors, bonnet and guards to get painted.

That looks awesome, well done!diogenese wrote:It's coming along nicely now. I have got the cab on and the dash finished but I'm still waiting for the doors, bonnet and guards to get painted.
You going to get it muddy when you're done?

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Hell no! It might tow my '40 to somewhere to get that muddy but it's not going in itself

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I've got some 33's on alloys to go on but the rims had flaky paint on them so I had them sandblasted and the vapour blasted to get a satin finish which I have protected in a clear coat. I'm a bit disappointed with results as they just look painted now. They looked great before the clear coat.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Just a quick update, I took the money pit for a trip across town to pick up the tray as I have nothing to lift it at home and it's not light! I'm going to have to do some woodwork as the headboard planks were too far gone.
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Looking good.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
It's been off and away for so long I forgot how long it was, I can't imagine how much stuff you could load on it! I'll have to measure up a wool sack and see how many you could fit on

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I got the front guards back from the painter and I have now decided not to use them, they are fibreglass and they don't fit perfectly enough
also there isn't a lip to fit rubber flares to so I have started from scratch and I'll repair some steel ones and as I'll have the welder out I will band them 50mm so I won't need the flares.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Going to widen my guards at some stage (its on the list - first I have to find some front tyres for a reasonable price and fit them so I know how wide I have to go).
Looking at 65-75mm wider than standard at this point. I'll make up some more running boards to go from front to back at some stage and some rear guards to match the front ones as well when I build the stepside tray.
Watching your build with interest - you're doing a great job.

Heath, you want to check out Twisty's 45 on ih8mud.
He has done an excellent job on his wellside and front guards.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I have abandoned my wider steel guards. the donor ones have been repaired so many times I think if I split them down the middle I'd never get them flat again.
I have fitted the fibreglass ones and I'm going to get some skinny rims and tyres.
The seat frames.have been painted and are in and new belts fitted.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I've had a productive new year break, I have been on call so I couldn't disappear to the lakes so I fixed the 45 instead
The list of things left to do is getting smaller but is waiting on stuff getting delivered.
I have fitted new door seals and it's bloody hard to shut the doors now, hopefully they will settle in.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
My led spotlights arrived after 6 weeks from china, not the finest quality but they look OK. Rear lights we in the same order and are waiting to get some brackets made up tomorrow.
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Wow what are those headlights? flash looking!!
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I got them from mudstuck/scarles but one of the main beam LEDs doesn't work and I have had no luck in getting any warranty from them and they don't stock them any more. Probably the last thing I'll buy from them, you might as well spend half and take the risk with direct from China.
If they worked properly they would be bloody fantastic!
The chrome spotlights are straight from china and are led too. They are OK but more flood than spot.
Got the rear lights fitted, I have used a pair to get lights that fit the space nicely.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Ive got some LED headlights that I should be bringing in this year. Will have a warranty that I will stand behind.
Will try and find some pics, we have a set on a truck at the moment, they have passed a wof and been checked on a beam tester.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I'll go for WoF with the ones I have as they are marked correctly but I like yours better with markers built in. D you have pic of the dip beam pattern?
What is the timframe for your order or would an early order be more expensive?

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Yeah i like the day time running lights on them. The dip beam is somewhat spread but more spot and the high beams are spot. I dont have any pics sorry, camera wouldnt pick them up properly.
Usually around 3 week turn around from placement of order to arrival.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Was looking for some with a halo of day time lights in NZ but they seem to be way too over priced here (sorry NZ suppliers), but am wary of buying offshore because of our standards for WoFs and warranties should something go wrong.
Might just stick with the el cheepies for now.
Looking bloody good though!!

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
My bonnet finally got painted
now I have a short list of things to finish off the worst being the tyres and exhaust. Tyres are just money and the exhaust just needs welding up.

Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
Restoration looks fantastic. Nice work mate.
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
SWEEEEEET!!!!
Re: HJ45 flatdeck restoration
I've got the headboard planks done, I used composite decking planks for the look of old wood without the maintenance.
I've also got the wheels and tyres sorted. I'm much happier with the look of the 16" steels and 235/85R16 tyres. They are a fair bit taller than the old 31's, nearly as tall as the 33's.

Seriously though, nice looking truck mate. Those 16's and tyres look great on it.
