Newbie truck selection

Post by Logi »

Hi all.
I carrently drive a 1996 Terrano, and have decided i would like to sell it and look into a 4X4 that i can get me to the top of Thompson track (with modification of coarse)

I am currently looking at the Isuzu MU or LandRover disco 1

What out of the too would be the best you all think? :D

Out of a MU and a Disco a Disco is a better 4wd offroad. A MU is really just a sideways step from a Terrano

a 1996 terrrano is monocoque body/no chassis... so that's a bit unfair on the Mu to call it " a sideways step". :)
I suggest buying a digger if you want to make it to the top of thompsons track( to fill all those massive ruts and exceedingly long bog holes!)

Yes true, but still not a step forward that is worth paying much for really.

My terrano by all means is a good truck i am impressed with were i have manged to get in it.... but lift wise all i can do (that i know of) is a 2'' suspension lift and that ant gonna be enough lol
i would be happy as with a diesel disco 1 :D they do cost a wee more then the MUs

just put a winch on it( you will need by the sounds anyway for Thompsons) then pull yourself through  no lift required..

The autos suck, ecu contrlled pump. The earlier ones like my 200tdi are purely mechanical. Far easier to increase fuel and boost which will need to be done as they are a bit slow standard

ok awesome thanks :D

i assume this is the 300tdi then?

also saw this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =998363753

1995 im not sure if would be a 200tdi or a 300tdi

im not to worried about the auto trans they still seem to go hard from what i have seen

just that disco 1 seem to have more flex then the later 2s (from what i have seen on youtube)
