MAXXIS MUD TYRES

Hi all,

Im after reviews as im stuck on what tyre to buy. Im moving up to a 35" mud tyre for my LN106 hilux.

Im looking at either of the following,

MAXXIS BIGHORN

MAXXIS TREPATOR

MAXXIS MUDZILLA

Has any one run any of these, Or maybe suggest any other good tyres.

I use my hilux evenly on and off road, I dont really travel more then 80ks from home.

Big horns will last better as other other two ran soft rubber compounds and will just erode when driving on the black top.

Unsure about the treps but the zilla is only 34" tall even tho it states 35 on the sides

I do run around town abit other the only driving i have been doing is to 4x4 tracks so i dont mind going slightly more aggressive.

Imho the zillas are to fat for ya lux. You wont have the weight to make them work. Simys or silver stones will grip better but both are 100% useless on the tarmak or better described as dangerous

I'm running Trepadors on a LWB Safari, and pretty pleased with how they're wearing. At least twice the life of the Kumho KL71's I had previously. And good strong sidewalls with directional tread so better offroad than the Bighorn

Iv got mudzillers on my cruiser iv done 20 tho on them an only half worn if that best mud tyre iv used in the wet id buy them agen if it was still on the road

I was looking at the Mudzillas a few years back, and a few guys that I talked to about their performance said that they were great in the slop if you wanted to go forwards. However, they also said that on greasy side slopes, they had bugger all grip and could see you sliding sideways without much notice. I wasn't keen on that idea!

I find them not to bad on the cruiser i was lookn at simex but there shit in the wet for road use and there like 600 were i payd 440 for 35 mudzillers

The radial Treps are best 50%offroad 50%on road tyre in your list
Less noise on road compared to mudzillas too.

I was running 33" buckshots but i found those very average offroad,

But im 90 percent sure ive made room for 35s so thats whats coming.

So sounds like either mudzillas or treptors?

Maxxis no longer make mudzillas but im told they do have sets around the country just matter of locating a set.

is a 13.5" tyre going be ok with a 10" rim?

Dont get me wrong id love to get silverstones as they are prob the cheapest of them all an most aggressive. but as you all say they are nasty on road. Noise doesnt phase me

Keep your Buckshots as a road tyre until they're worn down, and get a set of 35" Silverstones as play wheels? That's how I've gone because most of the mild off roading doesn't require aggressive tyres to get where you'd like to go. Then when you know you're going to be doing some tougher stuff, throw the big ones on!

For the price of good tires its well worth doing this, I have half worn BFG's AT's on the cruiser and 35" simex's sat in the shed. BFG's have been on for 6 years now, $250 bargain on Trademe

ditto the last 2 posts, you can even add beadlocks to the off road only tyre set

35's may fit on your vehicle but what about your gearing, off road maybe fine in low range turning 35's but on road moving to 35's acceleration is going to be slower without changing your diff gearing (4.88 or even 5.29) and your stopping distance is going to grow longer unless you upgrade your brakes.

Skinny tyres work best on lighter vehicles especially in the slop as they dont have the weight to dig down.

yep, i just buy average joe trademe A/T's for road and silverstones for the deep s#^*t.
