R150 v R151f

Need a bit of help!

My truck LN130 surf has an R151f gearbox thats in it currently, however the box is on its last legs. Really crunchy and hard to select 2nd and sometimes 3rd, with gauranteed crunchs into 2nd.

My question is, if I can get a reasonable R150 gearbox and transfercase, whats the difference between the two?? And what would that do to ratios? The diffs are 4.1

Sorry I can't help with ya question but could be interested in ya 151 if ya do replace it. Speshly if it'll come with the transfer case

r151f and r150 are basically the same gearboxes but the the gear ratios are different. typically the r150 is with the petrol versions, tho not always.

first thing however, have you replace the shifter seat? very common for them to fail and cause gear selection problems.
fairly cheap and easy to replace. toyota for the stock ones or marlin make a heavy duty version.

mates just had his rebuilt exact same issues, hard facing on the shafts around the bearings had worn off causing slop and hard shifting and the as above selector bushes were shot to non existent.
cost him about 850 to do it,

like a new gear box now.

FYI get it done sooner rather then later, the less wear and damage now the cheaper it will be to fix

Crash where did your mate get his box rebuilt? As that seems like a really reasonable price

At this stage I can't find any r151 boxes which is a pain, so will be looking at rebuilding

The V6 ratios on the R150 won't suit the diesel and the shifter location is different which will cause tunnel issues.

Ah k thanks heaps for that, I should have said Im in Auckland, so that would be a long drive for a couple of hundred dollars.. would probably be more expensive carting it to and from
