Advice on A/Ts

After a set of good A/Ts, 285/75/16.
Looking at Cooper ST Maxx and BFG KOs, both pretty pricey by the looks of things.
Anyone got experience with either of these?

Dont know if the st max comes in 16"

Ive gone for the stt as its a relatively closed tread pattern for a mud and not as square as the std st.
They hold on to the black top very well. And in the likes of basic gravel and construction site crap that i drive in perform very well.
Effectively only $70 to $100 differant per tyre i think its money well worth spending.
In aussy and the states they are getting 70 to 100k out of a set. Ive owned 3 set of coopers 1x st 1x the older stt and now the new stt and as a general all rounder the new tyre performing well above the other two.
I average 300 to 400ks a week in a big whale towing shit loads and push the wagon hard. Bad tyres are to expensive in my opinion

I have just bought my 4th set of BFG KO's, however this time is the new KO2. They are expensive especially in the 17 inch but I have had lots of experience with the KO and thought I'd try the new model.
They are 'harsher' riding tyre compared to cheap ones or highway ones due to having sturdy sidewalls. You notice things like coins rattling in the ashtray that didn't prior.

We've had STTs on our 70 series every time. I do like coopers. These will be going on a 100 series

I got mine at the field days special and offhand $380ish each for stt's
the st's are similar, within a $5r each way

The old KOs are still available is many sizes. With bfg's it really pays to shop around, mine were comparable to mickey Thompson STZ which I considered but the bfg won for me due to stronger sidewall. I looked at the ATZ (which has a strong sidewalk like bfg) but thought it may have been a bit noisy on the road for what I was after.

I have BFG KO's too, bought 2nd hand, have had them 5 years and 30,000KM's still about 40% tread based on new tyre. They will get damaged before they wear out Have lost one already.

Had 285 75 16 bfg kos on my 100 and got really good milage out of them!
Replaced them with ko2 wasn't really fussed on price because they work out cheaper in the long run.

Just weighing in.

I've been rolling around on BFG T/A K02's (33x10.5x15) for about 2 months now. About 3000km done on them to date.
Very quiet on road. Much quieter than my old AT's (desert duelers). But about 2.5x the price. Set of four balanced and fitted were $2250 retail.

Like NJV6 said, they have a firm ride. Loose things WILL rattle. They were great in the rain too. No problems going through the windy bits at speed.
Haven't gotten them in the mud much but on wet clay they were a little slippery but hey, it's wet clay.

IMHO, the best looking A/T tyre out there with their sidewalls. A lot of people mistake them for Muds. If you can get them for the right price I would definitely recommend.

+1 on the BFG KO2's, great construction and strength. They look the part and are apart of the newer aggressive AT patterns out there.

I got a set of lightly used KOs for a bloody good price, set of 5 as well. Love them, look so much better. Firmer ride so a few more rattles but all good

I use maxxis bravo 751's , good mileage and in the wet etc

I have been running Goodyear dura trac on my work ute for a while now and am really happy with them for a more aggressive at. Grip really well on the road especially in the wet. People seems to get about 70,000 out of them. Really quiet. We have run coopers on the work Utes before and found we only got about 50,000 out of them.

I had a few issues with balancing my goodyears but none of the other guys did. Seem to go best on road about 37psi in them

why buy a a/t at near 400 fitted ea when you can buy a mud tyre with road manners for less... E.g. 33 inch hankook dynapro rto3 is 349.

The reason I went all terrains is I get twice the kms out of them with good load rating and the truck there on 99% of the time is used on tarmac,construction sites and gravel roads
So no point fitting mud terrains even though they might be cheaper

They pretty much are an A/T but without the benefits of a decent mud tyre or a decent All terrain.

Im with NJV6 on that one! ^^ Hankook rt03 mud are great wearing, because there a useless Mud! Ha great AT though!
Being a tight arse last year I fitted 265/70/17 Achilles to my Amarok, 20,000km and Im wishing I wasnt soo tight. Ill be fitting bfgs or Coopers next....

I'll be keeping an eye on this because at the moment I'm running 33"x12.5" Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs as my road tyres which is less than ideal, such a waste of a bloody good tyre, but when these finally wear out, I'd be seriously looking at a 33" all terrain style instead because let's face it, most of our running around is on the road..

In saying that, the MT/Rs are wearing very well for a mud tyre I reckon. I've had them since new and have done around 40,000km on them so far, and they're half worn at 7mm tread remaining. They're no good in the slop like they used to be, but that's a problem the 35" silverstones take care of nicely

alot depends on where you live and drive too,the kms you guys are getting outy of your tyres is just a dream to get that in the king country/central plataeu,mate put a set of new coopers on his 4door v8 cruiser and loves them, not going to get huge milage but he likes how they drive,run bfg at on one of our hiluxes, he drives like a nana and babys the shit out of his ute and gets 50-55km out of a set ,got maxxis 751 at on probaly 10 of our utes and find them good driving and safe in the wet ,only get 30-40km out of them, but for some reason they drive horrible when fitted to our new shape colorado utes, which by the way are the worst utes ever, oil burning ,over traction controlled pieces of shit,couple run the new deuler and they seem very soft compared to the last ones and dont seem to be wearing very well either,had a real good run out of a set of yokohama geolanders,drove nice and got 47km out of them. i like to try all sorts of tyres on our utes to see which works best, 20 utes doing 40-90 000kms a year soon paints a picture.all double cab 4wd utes on a mix of tarseal/gravel, towing trailers ,fuel trailers etc,in my situation the premium you pay for cooper/bfg tyres doesnt give me any more milage,i only put them on because they like them and its worth it to keep them happy.all are factory size for the utes.
