My Mistral has a really rough first to second shift in the auto, even when warm its not a whole lot better.
150,000kms, fluid is clean, nice red colour, and does not smell burnt.
I'm about to change the fluid when I fit a trans cooler, hoping it may help. But do Terranos and Mistrals have this rough first to second change?
Cheers
Rough shift from first to second, normal?

in a word, no. Something not normal. Does it really Shudder when it changes? is it slow to engage second?
Re: Rough shift from first to second, normal?
Mine had this too , 95000 kms only. Not sure if as severe as yours but mine felt like it was getting shunted up the ass when shifting from 1st to 2nd. trans specialist put some additive in after a full service/flush. seemed to sort it out
. that and i drive it alot harder than the grandpa who owned it mighta sorted it

Hi no shudder, just a rough first to second change, otherwise seems an excellent trans.

when you say rough do you mean its sharp, like the car jerks or jolts when the trans shifts. What do you mean by rough?altair wrote:Hi no shudder, just a rough first to second change, otherwise seems an excellent trans.

Hi, yep, a jerk from first to second when cold, not much better when warm. Changes quickly and drives really well, making me wonder if a solenoid is faulty? If I drive really slowly its smoother. Cheers

Do these have a kick down cable? Perhaps too much line pressure is causing the harsher changes?
Re: Rough shift from first to second, normal?
Good point Smurf, I'll have a look...it certainly is very quick to kick down, slightest pressure increase on the accelerator and it kicks down
