Hi,
While under my gq y60 safari lwb sorting my factory diff locker i noticed the brake proportioning valve attached to the load sensor spring seemed to be stuck with the rod mostly out.
Is there anything that can be done to repair or recondition or do i need to replace it?
I will likely shortly put in a 50mm or so suspension lift, should i just wait and fix/replace the brake proportioning valve then?
Cheers
Colin

Re: Brake proportioning valve
How often do you brake heavily with a load on the back?

Re: Brake proportioning valve
Dont generally pull anything heavy at this stage. Every so often load her up with full camping kit, rack on the roof and diesel jerry can etc. So it is heavy but not super heavy at the back end.
Re: Brake proportioning valve
So you have tried to move the valve lever and there is no movement?
Re: Brake proportioning valve
Pretty much yes i gave it a push and nothing happened. It is sticking out past the metal bit on the spring. I applied some oil wd40 to see if it is just stuck and have left it to soak in. Then i will go have another push at it.
Re: Brake proportioning valve
Just checking you are pushing the lever/actuator, and not expecting the bolt that protrudes to move with it.
Re: Brake proportioning valve
The bolt that sticks out isnt supposed to move then?DaveM wrote:Just checking you are pushing the lever/actuator, and not expecting the bolt that protrudes to move with it.
What does it do then? Is it maximum travel adjuster or something. The actual lever bit moves.
Re: Brake proportioning valve
the bolt adjusts the brake balance for the front and rear brakes,
if it stops evenly don't adjust the bolt,
if not take it a brake place get them to do it.
the garage I used did have a clue about the brakes, new garage got the truck to stop like a new truck, with all the mods

Re: Brake proportioning valve
If you haven't got an issue with the brakes, leave them as is, if there is a problem, take it to a mechanic. May potentially save you money in the long run.
The bolt doesn't move with the lever.

Re: Brake proportioning valve
Hi all and thanks for the posts. Brakes seem fine to me so will leave as is. Got to wof it next week so will see what the readings are and if they need tweaked i will take it to a brake place, i never do the brakes myself, not experienced enough.
Last set of brakes i stripped down and reconditioned were on a suzuki katana!
