can you legally run 35' creepy crawlers on the street ?
looking at getting bigger tyres later on and quite like the creepy cralwer , i hear they are Bias ply but feel like radials ,can you legally run 35' creepy crawlers on the street ? what would they wear like ? they'd be more used for rock's & stones , sand, snow .
I run a set on my Safari, bloody good in the mud, rocks, rivers, wet grass you name it.
Really quiet on the road, and they are wearing extrodinarily well for an aggressive tyre.
There isn't any mention of tyre size in the WOF manual, only that the tread must be covered by the guards or flares. Side walls can protrude from the gaurds/flares. So there for, no cert required.

I'm going through the process with the mods on my truck with the local LVC guy, and he has pointed out rules for needing a cert on a tyre increase of 5% or more in circumference, and any changes in body mounting, which would include body lifts
Will just pay for the cert I think, knowing how insurance companies always try to find a way out in the event of a claim.

It MUST be certed if the rolling diameter is 5% larger than the OE Spec.

Unfortunately what needs certifying isn't always in the WOF book.
The other thing to think about with ANY mods is that your insurance company may not cover you without a Cert.

you can fit any diameter wheel as long as the rolling circumference (the distance one turn of the wheel travels on the road) does not increase more than 5% over the original equipment without the need for an LVV cert. The main reason for this is that a substantially increased rolling circumference will make the speedo under-read (i.e. the speedo will read, say, 90kph when you are doing 110 kph).
Unfortunately what needs certifying isn't always in the WOF book.

Been through this, if memory serves correctly the factory tyre on the jeep was 235/70/15, (some came out with 225) to go up to 31 x 10.5 x 15 meant an increase of 7-odd percent... which is obviously outside of the 5% threashold of the lvva requirements. . . . . . seems that particular requirement is a tad tight.
The only thing i can recall regarding height specs was that a car HAD to have 100mm body clearance from the ground and its lowest point (obviously aimed at lads in their jappas).
Regarding suspension modifications, again, only as far as my memory reaches, there was no restriction on height, provided you used the factory mounting points and they werent modified in any way.
I couldnt recall anything about body lift, but seeing as how i cant body lift, i probably didnt worry about that part.

As far as Im awere up to 2" bodie lift doesnt have to be certed but bigger tyres do as they increase the leaverage on the brakes and there for dont stop as well. But in saying that cirt plates only state the rim size.
My addvice, if you need any thing to be certified get every thing listed, bodie lift, tyres, bull bars, side bars etc you never know what the rules will be next week and cirts are not the cheepest. And the copps dont know the laws that well

To be honest, when it comes to mods and what needs certing, I would either get the info off the official site, or ask your local certer, as the wrong info could potentially cause a LOT of strife.
I've had a mates claim refused after he wrote his truck off while running uncerted 33's. He did the normal tyre swap for wof's but got caught out when he had an accident.
Company then refused to insure him again, and he had a real battle to get covered by anyone else.

And these are the OFFICIAL sites:
