Terrano Auto trans mode switch

My switch has been playing up recently and has been automatically putting itself into power mode at random intervals.

Can I just disconnect the wires from that side of the switch so it doesn't have the ability to do that any more?

My 'power' light lights up when you floor it for about 30 seconds. Haven't figured that one out but guessing its automatically doing it when you boot it to hold the revs longer
