Vehicle GPS for overland trip Asia to Europe

Post by hone »

Can anyone advise on the best option for a GPS dash mounted (useful if it could be detached, but not crucial).
Doesnt need all the fancy "do das" -voice instructions to Eifel Tower etc
Needs to be able to upload best world map system (Garmin worldmap or google earth.
most importantly must have decent sized screen and able to link with laptop.
Thanks for any help ::

What sort of size screen? In europe a hand held will work in cab as there are more satellites. My Garmin Etrex Visa gets 2m accuracy in europe but only about 10m here :(

Garmin Worldmap is just not suitable for your intend trip - Google can't get loaded to a GPS

Big screen - look a Garmin 276C - smaller screen - maybe a 60C ex http://www.gpsdiscount.com

give me a call 0274893679 or email brent@nzgpsmaps.com and I will talk through some of the options

Wow... you can get a Garmin 276C from them for US$561.48 (NZ$807.42), including US$60 of shipping! And on TradeMe logicalchoice (who are generally quite well priced) are selling them for $1319.

I guess the only problem is that you would get the US base maps instead of the Pacific ones. Where can you get decent Marine and Road maps for these if you imported one?
