Hi all,
I had some daytime running lights hooked up to a unused relay plug under the bonnet so they came on with ignition.
The daytime running lights have shorted out and now there is a bunch of items that aren't working.
The RPM gauge does not move, the battery, A/T oil temp, and fuel light are all on. In overdrive the torque converter only locks for around 30sec and the automatic line pressure seems to be high so gear changes are a bit rough/fast.
I have checked all fuses in the fuse box with a multi meter and fusable links near battery.
The voltage going to wire i was using has dropped to around ~2volts.
The alternator is charging at 14.2volts.
I cannot think of anything else to check?
Its a 1992 Nissan Terrano WD21 with td27t engine.
Thanks

What was the unused relay switching originally

I'm not sure, never had a relay in it. It's blue in colour and close to the battery.fh2014 wrote:What was the unused relay switching originally

That sounds like a problem.travis2ninja wrote: The voltage going to wire i was using has dropped to around ~2volts.

Yes, just don't know where all that power comes from. Obviously has lots of different controls you would think they would have a Fuse for it.MihiT wrote:That sounds like a problem.travis2ninja wrote: The voltage going to wire i was using has dropped to around ~2volts.
Tried starting my car today (it's a bit cold) tool ages to start whichis weird, because it usually starts on first turn... Turns out glow plugs are also not working!

It's going to be a long hunt. Out with the multimeter and basically front to back. Check fuses/ links again. Check your main earths, relays functioning. Where in the country are you? There may be a friendly local who's familiar with the vehicle to help for beer. A haynes manual is pretty handy here as they have wiring colour diagrams.

Re: Nissan Terrano 1992 Electrical Problem
If the DRL shorted violently it may have welded the relay contacts closed, or blown the coil, meaning all the juice from that "on" circuit is going to ground. So if you havent, I'd disconnect them until you find the problem or you'll be in for a new battery too.

Yay!, Found the problem. It was a fuse, but i tested with ignition on and engine not running it measures at 12Volts and measured again with engine running and it was at 2 Volts.
