just wondering has anyone been through Napoleon hill recently ??

Haven't been in there since late last year, but it usually a relatively easy drive, though winter rains can make water levels higher in places, there can be slips in Nobles creek so be prepared. The climb up Napoleon can be really greasy in the wet too.

2 hours if you rushed and didn't enjoy the views, otherwise it can fill in the best part of a day if you explore a few of the side tracks and find the cemetery up the top of Napoleons. etc.

do the creek rise fast ??? would water be high if been drizzling for few days before going in ???

Our club drove through there last Christmas /New Years. Great trip. (Thanks Smurf) Give the local farmer a call to Guage the river level as you need to drive through it at some point. Unless you get to the end and then just come back. .

Napoleons Hill (Nobles Creek) - Easy full day trip, should be no issues for anyone. No damage, unless you're silly. (Greymouth to Southern end of Napoleons start, 46mins)

Starting at Orwell Creek Rd, Totara Flat 7871

With Napoleons if you can talk to the land owners at the Orwell Creek end/ Ahaura end, (Robyn and Malcolm Smith : 03 732 3849 , 0211314632, or possibly  027 606 5648. ) for a fee they used to give a bit of a tour of the old cemetery I think and a few other historically interesting areas before letting you through the locked gate to drive Napoloens and the tunnels.

If Napoleons doesn't fill a day, on our return to Greymouth we could head up to Nelson Creek for some historical bush walks with a few mining tunnels etc.

There is also the Brunner historical mine site on the return to Greymouth.

Coal Creek Falls is also worth the walk apparently:

It is no more or less scenic from either end, its a good drive either way.
Going in from Ahaura end is easier as you drive down Napoleon Hill, which has now had the ruts filled in and is very easy to drive. (we went through just after New Years). Downside is you need to arrange access and pay to get through the gate at the Ahaura end, bonus of that though is they will show you through a few old mining tunnels and give you some history of the area if you are into that sort of thing, their house set up is pretty cool too. Look out for steps on the right (left if you come up Napoleons) as you drive long the top ridge above Napoleons, the steps lead to a small graveyard.

Do you have the contackt details handy of the land owner?
We are planing a trip to the coast later in the year and I am looking up trips that looks interesting. yes for us finding out the history of the area we visiting is part of 4wding.
