compressor plumbing, rpm calc etc

I picked up bits of a compressor for a very Scottish price and need to work out how to put it all together and what parts I need to replace/pickup.

What do the numbers on the pump mean?
Numbers on the Prestcold pump are
--pulley shaft are:17 8 24
--right site if pump housing 17-8-21 (I think)



Anyone have a pulley sitting around? This one is buckled and cracked


Plumbing.. I assume pressure hose from pump to connector behind gauges.



Came with two motors.. one 3phase (so not much use to me at home) and a 3/4 hp single phase. How can I work out hp required and at what RPM should it be run at?

I am sure I will have more questions before I go shopping down at the supply shop. and thanks in advance for help

It doesn't look like a fridge compressor to me, and would need extra lube in the head if it was. I'd expect that the oxy reg was just what was lying around.

That's a pretty big pulley on the pump which suggests fairly high RPM as most electric motors run at 2-3k. If the motors were original for the unit their RPM should be on the nameplates and you could guess from that.

I'd start with a 2:1 ratio on your motors output shaft and see if that fills fast enough for you. I'd also check the sump to see what kind of oiling system it runs and make sure that's working.

Pressure side plumbing can (should?) be done with rigid line, steel or copper.

I know I have a similar size pulley in the shed but it's for a flat/serpentine belt so might not suit?

And I expect that the numbers on the casing would be your bearing sizes.

The pressure plumbing only has to go from the reed/valve to the tank, not necessarily to the same point as the pressure gauge.

Difficult to say required HP, 3/4 should be fine, but single phase will have rather low torque unless it's a low RPM motor. You may need to add a start/run capacitor to it.
