Have looked at bottle rental, but its just not cost effective for me.
Thx

The Toolshed shops sell 2 litre disposable cylinders similar to that for $90. Not sure on pressure/capacity though.
You'd only have to go through about 3 a year before it was better value to rent a bottle though. Have you priced up Air Liquide? when I got my TIG a couple of years back I was amazed how much cheaper than BOC they were.
Cheers

Sent the wife to Air Liquide last week, smallest they do is a D size, $156.49 to start then $24.12 per month or $197.80 annually. I know its not much, but its another monthly outgoing, disposables are easier to justify as I can cost it into each of the projects.Clint wrote:The Toolshed shops sell 2 litre disposable cylinders similar to that for $90. Or I could buy a bottle for $499 and do a bottle swap.

Not sure on the economics now but I when I did the numbers filling an owned bottle was much more $$$ than a renter. I worked out that if I was using more than 1 F size Argon bottle per year (which I do usually) renting was the cheaper option. Now I'm not emptying Argon onto various bits of Landcruiser in quite the same volumes as the last couple of years
I probably should look at an owned bottle again as I think bottles are getting cheaper plus they are doing swaps locally rather than wait a week for a fill.

Re: Disposable Welding Gas Bottles - CHCH
I'd go owner bottle every time now. I had basically paid for a bottle renting for a couple years with a handful of fills or so.
Not a whole lot dearer to fill and my recent bottle has over 9 years left on the test.
Good if you're like me and might use 2 bottles worth in a couple weeks then sit idle for months.
Cost me $400 last year to buy an F sized bottle filled with Ar-CO2
2 day or so turn around on fills depending on gas - In Hamilton.
Eziswap has a better network now too but they worked out dearer to buy into and swap. I was also then tied to the only distributor in our area whose shop I didn't like. I think there's a chch distributor for them.
Those little throw aways would be ok for small stuff but wouldn't take many before the price got up on ya. Body/sheet work with mig or any processes with back purging can eat a lotta gas.

Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..
Re: Disposable Welding Gas Bottles - CHCH
Do you specifically want argon or could you settle for just co2?

Re: Disposable Welding Gas Bottles - CHCH
I did look at that as CO2 is sooo much cheaper, but for what I want to do, both google and the people I know who do this stuff every day have said to go AR/CO24x4 wrote:Do you specifically want argon or could you settle for just co2?
