td42+t clutch no good

Post by slidenyo »

so turns out brand new clutch doesnt have the hold for an old td42 12mm an turbo setup .
meant to be a safari tough job but slips between 2-3k at 16psi 15-16afr.
any nissan pressure plate variants with enough clamp for 600-900nm? or do i leap into a ls7 or viper pressure plate?

I highly doubt that a brand new clutch plate is going to give 100% bite on its first outing.....was the fly wheel skimmed. Is the clutch plate in the right way (offset spline) WS there any contaminants in the bell housing. FYI the plate will grab but obviously the pressure plate isn't up to the task...there are guys running 30-40 even one truck with a compound turbo setup hitting 50psi and don't have aftermarket clutches.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

See if the clutch setup from a Nissan civilian bus is any different.

looking at factory viper pressure plate its only rated to 600nm in standard form and up 1000nm in upgraded form

Just put a Viper clutch in. Have not had it off road yet and only put about 50 road km on it. Pedal is way lighter than the old " heavy duty " clutch. Also size must count for something? :)

Old vs new

time to save then haha
. just starting to get on top of the tune so a bit reluctant to back too much out of it just for the clutches sake.
alot more pretension on the compensator is keeping the afrs over 14.6 now where as before itd get a touch of boost drop into the fuel pin early and be blowing 12's till the boost caught up and leaned it out.
still only getting 450 max egts but twin scroll and laggy turbo may help keep the back pressure an heat out.

Ive got a Heavy duty jobbie from Waikato Brake and Clutch, Holds 30lb when we were tuning it, but more importantly holds the 20lb+ when towing the winch truck on the trailer..... and I give it a pretty good thrashing when that trailers on.
