Series panel compatability

Post by Flyingpony »

Saw a sharp priced 88 Series 3 and have some questions.

Don't like the breakfast (radiator grill) and firewall because they both contain plastic. Like the series 2/2a style more.

How compatible would it be to swap these out and replace them with ones from a Series 2 or Series 2a?

Obviously I'll have to make sure they come off land rovers which rolled from the factory with a 4 cylinder motor because I fairly sure 6 cylinder firewalls are different (I've got one).

From reading articles from Aussie outback, I'm expecting that the breakfast should not be a problem because many s3 run s2 grills so they have an extra set of head lights up front.

Obviously the dash layout on the series 2/2a is different, but that's okay as it'll get rewired anyway. But do they bolt onto the chassis perfectly, mate up perfectly with the panels, doors, wind screen, and the controls (steering, clutch & brake pedals) etc?

Has any body done something like this before and what problems did they face?

* here's hoping it's a straight unbolt and bolt in job *

Thanks.

As I understand it - yes a
straight unbolt and bolt in job

Assuming of course any of the nuts etc will unbolt!!!!!!!!!!!
As you said the dash is completely different so some bodging would be needed but it still shouldn't be too major. Only bit I'm not sure about would be the wiper motor??
If at first you don't succeed .... Get a bigger hammer!!

Ha! I'm expecting to become an expert at broken bolt extraction.

Yes, the wiper motors and wiper arms positions are different. I don't see this has a biggie since I'll make sure the donor firewall came with them. I'm more worried about panel assembly and level of bodging required.
