I'm not sure what Mr. Nissan was thinking, why is there so much excess under the bonnet??
Clutch - there is a tee block, one of which heads to the slave cylinder, the other through a coil and up to a bleed valve.
What is the point?? Can I just blank this coil off? Is it for extra fluid, or cooling? or just to bleed completely?
Vacuum - do I really need the ballast tank? I'm going to reroute the lines either way
Fuel - comes in along the RH rail, 90•, across to the diesel filter on LHS, 180•, back across to the injector pump, 90 + 90• then the return line to the tank! Fluid dynamics anyone?
Wire - don't even start me! It's spaghetti junction in there!
and if anyone knows about the breather, it seems my front diff and gearbox share a breather line into the LHS quarter panel (high) while the rear only goes up into the crossmember (low.) Is there a check valve inside the quarter panel for the front? Can/ should I reroute all of this, and bring the rear forward, to somewhere up under the dash? It doesn't really make sense that the box should be coming forward as that's about the highest point in the line.
So, my plan is to bring the diesel filter over to the driver's side removing 2m of hose and 360• of bends; mount the vacuum lines/tank higher up the firewall; remove the excess clutch line, fit both batteries on the LHS, and have a bit less clutter!

Clutch is a bleed line - I guess not really necessary but easier than bleeding from below.
Vacuum tank is because the clutch also has vacuum boost like the brake.
Is it really worth the effort of moving / removing everything? There's plenty of space, and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" makes sense to me. It all works - so why change it?

I like space and I like simplicity! (And there's usually something in my way when I try doing anything at the moment)muddy wrote:Clutch is a bleed line - I guess not really necessary but easier than bleeding from below.

The diesel filter is due to move when I find someone to bend my snorkel anyway, which frees up a lot of space on passenger side. I dont see a disadvantage to having it driverside with heaps less hose run (Less work for all parts.)

Re: Y60 underhood hoses...
don't really have to move much if you come through the corner ot the hood with yer snorkel . put my vac vessels on the drivers side and batteries in the boot

On the factory turbo trucks the fuel filter is on the drivers side from memory....

Re: Y60 underhood hoses...
Hmm. I've googled that up and every one I've seen is in the same place. Realistically there isn't anywhere to hang it driverside. I will keep an eye out though.DieselBoy wrote:On the factory turbo trucks the fuel filter is on the drivers side from memory....

I was going to punch it straight out the quarter guard, rather than bonnet, which would take up a bit less space than that system and gets rid of that stupid forward snaking dust sucking water trap wheel arch arrangement!slidenyo wrote:don't really have to move much if you come through the corner ot the hood with yer snorkel . put my vac vessels on the drivers side and batteries in the boot

definitely look at a donaldson pre cleaner if dusty roads is an issue .
compared to a standard snorkel hat they are awesome .
