Y62... Any Use??

I'm very much of the school where "if you can't fix it with a hammer, it's probably no f*ing use" and I had to laugh when I read a review of the Y62 Patrols:
Apparently they "have trouble engaging 6th gear below 120km/h"

Which is a shame, because I often find myself down the back paddock on a 30% grade, just wishing I could grab 6th...

Which got me thinking. Are there ANY, "4WDs" made in the last decade, (or two!) that are worthy of being called x4s? would be interested to hear from owners of >2000s wagons

I would almost like to get a Y61, but the price they hold, and the work I'd have to do de-modernising it just makes it crazy. It's safe to say the Y62 is right out!

I know early model 200 series cruisers had a similar issue with 6th gear not engaging till 120km +

Tbh 99% people that buy y62 patrols are more into driving on road towing boats and doing the school run
As for 4x4 in the last ten years my pick is the v8 diesel turbo 70 series in a wagon or troopy please it actually is 4 wheel driven
First gen Y61 aren't that modern mate it's old school engineer that's why there good and hold there value

Basically ya want anything made before 1998 if you require a hammer to adjust the timing.

Anything after that is plug n play.

Was rather impressed with the new tritons though. Had one follow me around the desert/army training ground and what it lacked in ground clearance made up for with its techy wizbang computer controlled traction aids etc. Takes the fun out of slippery slopes anyway. Lol
