Putting a GU Patrol diff and factory locker into a GQ Safari

Post by 4x4rookie »

I want to put a rear GU complete axle under a GQ safari

My question - what is the easiest way to rig up the factory locker to use in a GQ ?

I realise its vacuum operated - does it need vacuum to hold it out of lock and vacuum to hold it in as well via the 2 separate pipes ?

Would a little vacuum pump do the job ?

I realise it has a 12 volt solonoid so will need to step down from 24 volt

Any ideas of an easy way to use the locker ?

cheers

Is your GU petrol? If diesel it will have a vacuum pump for brakes. You can buy a Mac Valve to replace the factory solenoid, much better & faster. You can also use very low air PRESSURE to activate.
If your interested I can dig out the part # for the Mac Valve.

45A-AC1-DDAA-1BA this is 24v, the 12v has one different letter (I think, been a while). Ask for the waterproof mod 532F. http://www.macvalves.co.nz/ talk to them & they'll sort out the correct one.
