Rear diff needed for datsun Ute

Post by Kent »

My mates Datsun Ute has blown a diff and hes looking for a new one, or at least a pinion gear. Its a 1990 4wd and its the rear diff we are looking for. With a ratio 4.875.1 don't know what you round that to. If anyone has one, or knows if something else will fit in its place ie manual diesel terrano diff? Can ya let me know. Its LSD as well, but hes just looking for the cheapest way of fixing it so anything will do.

Cheers

Diff Ratio

Post by Kent »

You wouldn't know what the diff ratio is would you Wopass, it looks like the 720s came with a range of different diff ratios.

the head is still in the housing mate so i dont think i will be able to tell you exactly what ratio it is, i can give it the turn and count rotation treatment tho which will give you a ball park ratio...if its close to 5:1 i will pop it out and count teeth for ya. may be able to see in the filler plug but not sure.

let you know dude :wink:

Have'nt 720s got salisbury style diffs? as in an inspection cover on the side away from the driveshaft and no diff head? so to "pop it out" You'd have to dismantle the diff?

Maybe you could count the teeth by just opening the inspection plate?

good luck :D

the 720 diffs are the same as 180b but getting the right ratio could be tricky, they are a normal type diff head so you will have to pull out to count teeth ,720 diff code for that diff is hf 48 cause my 720 has the 4.8 diffs ,terano wont fit as they are 190mm were as 720 is 180mm , if you get stuck put a post up as there are a couple of 720s i am trying to score at the moment, cheers

I'm confused. :scratch:

There was no Datsun ute made in 1990. The datsun 720 was discontinued in 1986 (replaced by the Nissan navara)

please advise us if there is a typo on the year? or is it a nissan navara?

Hey guys

Sorry I've been away for a while. Well it says Datsun on it but it is deffinatly a 1990 so I spose its a Navara then. Its all sweet though the rear diff of a Terrano manual diesel is the right ratio so we did the swap last week and hes back on the road again.

Cheers for all the help
