ZJ Project

Post by aroma »

ok I have bought a 97 red ZJ
completely standard ...........................
the rules .... must stay road legal

plans
tidy it up and use it
roof lining sagging and a small vibration

but want
winch bar (has airbags)
sill protection
small lift

so far I have
bullbar off a xj ,still on its way to me
2" lift
winch
modify the towbar to a removal tongue type

now anyone have a ZJ with a roof consle would like to know how far back is the roof lining cut for the tang that holds it up ......

have spoken to a cert man to remove the airbags I need to fill the void with something like foam ?? anyone done this prior to me ?
will go
3"lift
sill protectors
15 x 8 rims
winch bar
and get it all cert so no issues from now on and will be ok if they change the bullshit rules again

Hi BlakeNZ
only the 4 ltr motor and auto trans, looking for a on demand transfer case thou, I keep saying the next one a V8 :o

so fay today I have
got a power wire and the PRS aerial into the roof area
still to do
reinstall the roof lining and all the internal panel I have pulled off :(

was thinking about putting the lift in but with the short week and a funeral to attend I don't think I can get the bar modified by Thursday and I better get the caravan finished properly ...............

well has been a while since I updated this
sill protectors on and have done a teams event in the Reefton area.
was enjoying my self till the radiator decided it didn't want to play the game  and split itself, to our relief it was in Reefton and only a short tow back to the RSA and due to a good bugger who had a spare in his trailer I was able to drive home on the Sunday :D
so it now sporting a nice new alloy radiator and has a new larger trans cooler waiting to be fitted and now looking for a XJ transfercase so I can play a little easier  and to finish the bars off ...........................

Pics are somewhere on the net

ok a bit more done
xj trans fitted and working I think it could be revving lower at 100 kms

front guard bars on but a technical glitch, I now can't remove the front bar
have started making stronger brackets for the rear bar and carrier don't want it to fall off when driving somewhere
put a couple of led light on the roof racks they seem ok even at 100 km/hr

have redesigned my inner roof console I now have a
winch control switch
switch for the roof light's
a spare spot maybe for the winch isolator when and if I decide to fit an solenoid
all the extra electrics have there own fuse box that is isolated when the key is off
a winch that works :D :D

now to use it
pics to come

Hey, is your winch switch in the roof? If so I bet you'll get a tired arm holding it up with all the winching you'll be doing!!!

Interesting ?

I do have to admit this is more of a cheque book build than the last one.......
I have a friendly engineer who is doing a lot of the steel work from my basic design but he and some of his staff are also into 4wding so have an idea what will work and be user friendly

on a positive note I almost got a WOF today, the lack or rear bumper stopped a clean sheet, now to refit the factory bumper .. :?
the front bar passed :D :D :D :D

Message from Aroma who can’t log on - Hi All
if you know of anyone looking for a 4wd my jeep will be looking for a new home shortly.
will be with winch, bar, recover gear, set of mud tyres and any other spares/ parts I have.
would like a mince and cheese pie and a coke for it but open to resonable offers. no time wasters

Cheers
Warren
