mostly whales with mud tyres and a few crusiers, drizling all day after a bit of fun we get to the top of a steep greasy grass hill and there is a drop off on the right hand side and we should drive around to the left, as i go off the top in my 1999 Nissan terrano with my best mate and her two girls and my son, with all terrain tyres on in 4 low 1st gear she loses traction almost imediatly sliding for the drop off at it's highest point about 5 meter drop , i put my foot on the gas and steered away from the drop, putting my whale into a spin then sliding backwards and sideways off the drop at a slightly lower point, about 2meters the truck rolled onto it's side and hung on a tree, once all the wee kids were out i got back in and got dragged back up and over and onto the flat. i rolled the left rear tyre off the rim, crushe two doors the pillar and cil, but no one was seriously hurt, moral of the story, buy a swb with mud tyres and a rock crawler dif

i'll be practicing decents once i've got mud tyres on the great white whale ( wish me luck ) with no kids this time

Great no one hurt ,
had my terrano on quite a tilt at weekend too ( thru Napoleans) and gave those (in truck )

I had a similar (sort of) rollover a year ago on a failed hill-climb. The damage to the truck isn't the worst thing - it's the damage to the confidence of the passengers! If you want them in the truck again - you have to convince them you've "fixed" the problem. A good chance to get the wife to agree on the need for a set of good Mud tyres... It worked for me!
well my best mate nicky is a die hard fan so she's coming to terawhiti, my two year old told me he wasn't scared but i'll only take him out in the dry from now on, but the 6 and 9 year old girls took a bit of convincing and i don't think they will come out again, but my confidence is reliant on a new set of aggresive muddies
and no hubby to tell me otherwise

ouch
;-p
should have aimed at goin off the bank forwards with heaps of gas on
but seriously.....
sometimes Shell it doesnt pay to follow where everyone else has gone, you would have more traction putting your wheels on fresh grass where no one had been, like where that shrub is half way down the hill, run right over it (looks like you dodged it by the tracks)and hug the other one near the bottom, more traction there where the grass hasnt been flattened and crushed/made more slippery by previous trucks.
try looking for alternative paths next time and try things(carefully of course...),dont just be a sheep and follow everyone else.not trying to tell you how to do things but just making sugestions that you might be able to try next time you find yourself in a similar situation

Ah well, time for a new set of tyres then, some 36" superswampers should see you right. After all, you've made some clearance for them under the sill.....
