Nice Discovery you've acquired there.

Another option is to try & get a Jap import pintle. Not a true pintle because they don't swivel, but thats generally not an issue, especially not for recovery purposes. Not sure how you're planning on mounting it, but no doubt you have already, or will, figure that out.

If I was you, I'd keep an eye out for one on the back of a Jap 4WD, usually they're on a Nissan Safari, then put a card under the wiper with your ph number offering them $30/$40/$50/whatever

If you ask me, a pintle is the way to go. I've got a Jap one & I've been happy with it. A bit more fiddly than hooks, but nice to know the rope/strop can't come off during recovery.

Whoohoo :D :D
Well done James, you'll enjoy the Disco. Much easier to drive off road than Zuki's. You won't need to attack hills at full speed. You will find it will idle up hills in low 3rd or 4th due to its much lower gearing and gruntier engine which had you grabbing low 1st in the Suzuki and reving the snot out of it.
And nothing, absolutely nothing, can beat that lovely V8 burble. There are very few things I enjoy more than being on a club trip and just rumbling along with the windows open listening to that V8 engine doing its job.
Around 2000rpm is all it needs to achieve most things, it makes maximum torque at just 1800rpm.
And as well as being very capable offroaders out of the box they also make very comfortable touring machines.
For the money they cost nowadays you'd be hard pressed to find a more capable, comfortable and versatile vehicle all in the same package and for the same price.

Yep, engines produce maximum torque when they are running at their most efficient rpm.
Unfortunately, as you will find out, even when a Disco is running at its most efficient, it is still not very economical.
An afternoon's play at Aotea Block will gobble up $30.00 in fuel easily.
Around town, driving to and from work I get 300km out of tank which cost near $100 to fill.
On the open road I have never been able to get much more than 400km out of a tank.
But hey, as in my previous post, that lovely V8 engine sound makes up for it.

I see that you have a few offers from people willing to tow you out when you get stuck. That truck of yours is an absolute beast and very capable. I think they may be surprised when you are towing them instead. 8) 8)

Anything for $0 is a good deal!! I use the same wheels on my Rangie as I had on my Series III. The tyres too, but i have new ones on the rims now.
