A couple of new projects on the go, can you help??

Post by DieselBoy »

Project No1 is solving my fuel system problems.
What I'm looking for is a Rotary inline pump, about 6-8 PSI with a high flow rate, somthing like 180 lph. It can not be a Facet/Pulse type pump. Preferably 24Volt.
So far i have found a Holly "Blue" fuel pump, which as the right specs and is used by a couple of people on their race trucks. At $440 a peice, i'm looking for alternatives. You pay for the Holly name i suspect.
Can any one recommend some where to try??
So far i have tried Repco, and a few auto sparkies and the net.

Project two is the rear Locker thing.
I have been dealing with the Diff Shop in Chch, and they have offered me a Detroit EZ Locker carrier kit for $550 and a second hand open diff carrier for $45.
The next best was the full detroit heavy dut locker unit, asembled with a detroit carrier etc etc for $950. Thats a bit more than i want to spend, and probably a bit excesive strength wise for my needs.
I'm bordering on giving them the go ahead to order for me, any last words of wisdom from any one??

Cheers,
Pete.

I got a very usefull piece of info from the guys on outerlimits4x4!!

The rear LSD carrier case and internals from a Nissan Terrano/Pathfinder from 95 onwards will fit the front Diff of a GQ patrol/Safari!!!!!

Now thats very valuable to know!!!

Anyone know where i can find a wrecked Terrano??

No seriously, i want to compare Transaxel numbers between a few of the different years!!

Really???
The first i have heard of that!!!!!!
In fact i have never heard of a Terrano/Pathfinder with a dead diff!!!!

Besides, the Terrano/Pathfinder LSD Carriers are the only ones that are a direct swap into the front diff of a GQ.

I'm looking forward to seing how it goes!!!

Probably because its only working with half the power and half the weight... Tho poo-trolls are hard on anything thats not built to handle the stresses of a mack truck!

Put it in at your own risk, I'd say... worth a crack, just don't expect it to survive hard offroading...

My 2c ( as a Toyota man with absolutely no Nissan experience other than gasping loudly when the one I did an oil change on took the whole 10l oil pack and wanted more!)

Hehe, yup, 10.2L.
Just as well i work at a coal mine, a Cat 777 dump truck takes 200L of oil i believe, so they don't notice a mere 20l dissapearing into the drum on the back or my Hilux

I'm going to give it a try with the LSD, alot of guys run them in OZ. They changed to the LSD because with a locker in the front they were just spitting out CV's.

Logic suggests that if its a straight swap, then the only reason it could be weaker is if the materials are not as high grade.

The front diff in my GQ has only a two pinion carrier, and the rear from the Terrano/Navara is a four pinion. The locker partnumber that fits the rear of a Terrano/Navara is the same that which fits my year of GQ.

I've really got to give it a go. Curiosity will get the better of me other wise

hahaha... oops :P Gotta watch what you say, and where you say it eh? This isn't a little core enthusiast group any more... its a widespread sprawling seething mass of 4WDing humanity... and theres bound to be someone who will know you :)

To steal a line from that 70's show, BURNED!

That aside, let us know what breaks, if anything :)

Hehe, interesting. Toymotor FJ40, Waipara, Full lockers on 36's, works on heavy machinary.
You must work for Goughs. But that wouldn't make sense with the Hitachi 1800.
Buggered if i know.

The stuff that gets wasted or thrown out up there makes you want to cry!!!
Every time that damn Cat 5130 blows a hose, which it does regulaly, that's 500L of oil spewed out onto the rock.
I saw a drum of greese at the dump the other day, still 80% full but discarded because the drum was patially crushed and they couldn't fit the pump to it.
When they had the old blue Mercedes service truck on the road, we used to pick up 20L drums of anti freeze and different grades of oil off haul road that had fallen off the back.
The oils were usually poured away as they weren't sure what particualr grade it was etc. What a F#cken waste!!!!!!
Any how.

The LSD, a guy in OZ has been running one for over 12mnths with no problems, and he inherited it from another guy who had been running the same one for a couple of years, so I'm am very optimistic that it will survive.
It remains to be seen.............

I would like to state for the record that i am absolutly full of shit, and you should never believe a word i say
