Silverstone MT117 Extreme Tyres

Post by lilpigzuk »

Does anyone know who does these in NZ now??
I know they were only carrying 35" size initially and the set I saw on a Discovery showed they did work a treat. My local tyre guy who sourced the set for the disco said the guy that was the distributor for them does not do them anymore and isnt sure who does them?? They worked out to be cheaper than Simex and as far as I could see had slightly bigger voids between centre blocks so would think they may work a little better.

They do indeed have a more open pattern than a Simex. Simex's have 36 big lugs around the tyre, while the Silverstones have 32. The lugs are a little skinnyer too, so create even more void.

its a recent expired listing, but you may be able to chase them up if the guy didn't sell them.

For those who are interested:

Since mid last year there hasn't been a NZ agent for Silverstone 4WD Tyres and availability has been patchy at best.

Well now Palmside Motorsport in ChCh [(03) 338 9151] are looking to pick up the distribution of Silverstone 4wd tyres to compliment their existing range of rally tyres.

Currently available from the factory in Malaysia are the following MT117 Xtremes http://www.silverstone.com.my/tyre_mt117Xtreme.asp :
31x10.5-15
33x10.5-15
35x10.5-15
35x10.5-16

And the following MT117 Sports http://www.silverstone.com.my/tyre_mt117Sport.asp :
31x10.5-15
285/75-16

They hope to bring in a shipment in the near future, so if you're after a set give Dean Buist at Palmside a call. First indications suggests that the pricing will be a bit more competitive than Simex ET's.

If you've got any questions for me, by all means just ask away.

Cheers
Mitch
