I am considering a 1990 hilux 2l petrol with a few mods: 50mm body lift. 2" spring, snorkel. He wants 5k for. It will be used for geting into some back country for some shooting - and will also be a daily runner. It has 144,000kms. Mods are being certified tomorrow. Will get it inspected just to make sure. Anyone out there have something similar. I hoping this will last a while???????

I have something unsimular 
2l petrol 1986 surf
yours will be the later shape, not sure what engine the later ones have, if its the same 3Y as I have my only comment would be that it is a little underpowered esp for the fuel consumption.
but I will say that in the short while I've had it it has proved reliable and capable. Thrown it through water (no snorkle) and had no problems (of course I'm not submerging) when other trucks have had problems
