The bent steering rod could have been avoided, just a moment of inattention. But to prevent this just put a bar in front like I have done. Keeps all the steering bits in front of the diff protected. This is an afternoon's work and would cost next to nothing, all you need is about 1.2 mtrs of 50x50 box. The trackrod is a design mistake. If you are going to get one made get one with a kink in it to keep it out of harms way. Brian Howatt can make one of these for you. There is a reason yours bent twice. The first time you might have hooked on something. But with our bush repair there was no chance of getting it perfectly straight again. The large tyres you are running and probably more importantly, the large outwards off set on the wheels puts a large strain on the rod especially under conditions when it bent the second time, under hard brakes down a steep hill. If I where you I'd try and find some standard steel Disco wheels and sell the 8 spokes to some unsuspecting poor soul on TradeMe. Jules Lee at TwoOffroad in Auckland sell the Disco rims for $50.00 each. The diff is easily strengthened by fitting a Salisbury as you say. But finding one at a reasonable price might prove more difficult. Other options are fitting Hilux diff centres ($200-S300) and getting Howatt to make you some bullet proof axles ($300). One other reasonable cost effective way to strenghten it is to find a 4 pinion out of a LR 90 on which they were an optional extra.
yes im looking at all the options thanks heaps cloggy

There is a difference between getting dirty and getting dusty.
And truth be known, most of the dust on your Zuk would have landed on it whilst it was parked up at the hut.
3 -3, were even again.

Dont ask me to mark it, I'm not an English teacher. My degree is geography & Computing. Mind you i remember the professors at uni in geography were very picky about the use of English in the assignments.
Oh.....that makes me an expert witness in the difference between mud and dust!
I would just like to add that I really enjoyed myself this weekend. It confirmed to me that Rallywoods is my favorite 4x4ing in the Wellington area. The weather was stinking hot, the company was good, no issues, everybody was chilled and relaxed and just had a good time. Which was good because I had nothing planned beyond getting there. The LandRovers (including Tu's RR) provided much of the entertainment and the beers kept the bullshit rolling on Saturday night. Sunday was even more relaxed with the young fellows often buggering off at a millon miles per hours to God only knows where, while the rest of us enjoyed the morning sun and several cups of billy tea. The only down side is we had to hunt for any mud as it was few and far between. By the time Shelly and her entourage arrived the rest of us were on the wind down.
Oh...and don't get into any mud fights with 3 yr olds.....they always win.....even when you use Turoa as a shield ...... use a super soaker water gun (but the 3 Yr old will probably have a bigger one).

Great trip thanks Bubba, helpers and guides, Mrs Husain and I enjoyed every minute of it. The truck seems to have survived the weekend without any breakages , still cant work out why it gets more mud on the inside than the outside . The Lwb managed to get around all the tight corners except for trying to back around the corner out of the creek at the bottom of fawk hill, Jumper sorted that out by towing my arse end around the corner .... thanks mate I'm sure I'd still be stuck down there trying to get out
Thanks to Vern, the other shareholders of rallywoods and their hangersoners for the access and hospitality over the weekend

Totally agree.
I might look at organising an outing in there in one or two months time. That will give Mr O some time to make some improvements to his Disco, Turoa might have the Shedrover running by then, and we might get some regular rain to provide the all important mud.
Also some of our northern friends on here then have a bit of advance warning to they can organise themselves too in case some of them want to make a weekend out of it.

Ha ha ha! The bloody mud! Well we had to tow our boat over to Kaiteriteri just out of Nelson the other day. The Nissan still has about 10 inches of mud caked on it from our last Rallywoods adventure (when it was REAL muddy!) and the poor bugger was way up on hot for the whole trip. So we will be happy to avoid the mud next time.....though I bet we won't cos it is too much fun!!!

Sorry to break it to you, but unless you've been again since the last ORE rallywoods trip, that was very dry aswell
Probably by the tidal wave caused by Mr O when he went storming through the river at the end of the day on Sunday. Your Zuk was probably already floating so you didn't realise how deep it really was.
(actually, can't have been that deep, only came half way up a duck's back )
