Easter 07 Westcoast trip

Post by Elmo »

Fri 6th April - Monday 9th

OK, this is a little on the early side, but I thought id post up to give people as much time to save/plan as possible.

With the help of Nuts, I plan to do a full weekend of 4x4ing on the westcoast. Round the Westport area.

Aim is to travel from Chch LATE on the Thursday night. (At this stage anyway)

There is space for a few tents at Nuts place, and if you talk nicely to him, and pay in Woodstock, he may let you sleep inside :-D There is also a motel right across the road if you want a more comfortable stay, speak to Nuts, he will get a good deal for you.

Aim is to have 2 1/2 days of 4x4ing. See some fantastic country side.

The trip will be be aimed at the 'experienced beginnner' type person, with a fairly standard type truck. There will how ever be more than enough opertunities for well sorted trucks to do there own thing. Even if you just want to stay with us, then thats fine.

I'll put a small cost of $10 per person to stay at Nuts place, this is to just cover some general type foods and maybe drinks that are had there ;-)

Will hopefully do a night trip, and maybe even an over night trip. Will just see how things go.

This area is very weather dependant.

Fishing is also fantastic on the westcoast. Both salt and fresh water fishing.

Hope to see you all there.

Ken

P.s, please keep all post on topic as this may get to be long enough with out OT posts. Thanks.

we r looking @ doing the big river , makley, tunnels @ ikamatua, pretty much a shiney trip, with a few side tracks for those who want to try a bit more  basicly easy going just a drive in the bush and up a few riverbeds and a bit of basic rock climbing :)

Im back, Hosehustler, nuts is going to be sorting the track side of things, I just did the post :-D

Im sure between the 2 'groups' going over we can devise some very diverse and interesting routes.

As for 'fairly' standard trucks, the tracks we plan to take are for the beginner to intermediate range of drivers/vehicles. A trip semi aimed at the 'shineys' but with some interesting bits. Dont get me wrong, they wont just be gravel raods. My truck is still a semi shiney, the only real mod is a 50mm lift. Im still running 31's, with open diffs.

There will be something for everyone.

Hi again

I know a lot of people are going on the association trip, which is fine.

Can we just get an idea of numbers that are planning on coming on this slightly less challanging trip. (that may not nessicerily be true though)

At this stage we are looking at doing a combined sunday run.

No plans are set yet, jus trying to get a feel of who may come so we can try put plans in action.

Cheers

Either/or,

But, from experience, untill you make some kinda call as to what you guys are doing you are not going to get many hands up saying they are or aren't coming. Throw up a draft itinerary and see what response you get, then alter it to suit.

I for one like i have said, want to do some stuff up Mt Rochford, Big River and Napoleons. As soon as someone can pin down what their plans are, i will see if it is going to work for me, same with the others i suspect.

At this stage, think i will hang round close to Westport, prolly up Denniston area, then sunday and/or Monday head further afield to do the tunnels and big river.

As for thge shiny/easy stuff, well, if your taking em up the goat track, then theres no reason why we can't nurse them through the tunnels and into big river. Let the other guys with the better set up trucks go in one group, and i'll hang back with the shiny's and we can make our way through at our own carefull pace.

Thats just my thoughts at the moment, and i will be takin it easy as its just the start of a three week expedition for me 8)

Would be keen to go as a shiney provided I get some better tyres by then. Would also be nice if petrol prices came down, V8 expensive to run :(
