Hi All,

Just getting into all this 4X4 stuff and already getting a hard time for escalating costs!!

Hoping to pick your brains for good locations to drive and get spares and upgrades for the old favorite a 1984 BJ 40, so really enjoying NIBLIK's modifications page!

Happy to hear from anyone with tips and tricks (and a set of rear 50mm lift springs cheap!)

Welcome to anothe 40 fan!

Cheapest & easiest quick-fix for a saggy arse is to make up a pair of longer shackles for the rear. Don't spend money on lift springs until you decide how far you want to go with the mods. Your old saggy springs are ideal if you're going to go as far as a spring-over. Or longer shackles with 60 or 45 series springs will improve articulation & move the axle back (need to extend the driveshaft) to improve the departure angle & wheelbase. Any sort of lift will need longer travel shocks, but you'd be crazy to go to a half-way solution & replace things twice.

You don't need to lift it to get up to 33in tyres - just rip into the rear guards with a disc grinder...

Have fun with it! It's more fun driving a standard truck than having it all in bits in the garage. Do things a bit at a time so you can play as you go!

Have spoken to Rick at 4WD ACC and Mike at 4WD upgrades, too many temptations!!

Gonna pick up some cutting discs for the die grinder this pm and hack into it!!

Welcome on Dude. Just one word of advice, Just do abit of using and abusing before you go to crazy with your rig. You don,t have to have the wreck with the most exspensive mods you can get to make it awesome.
My shitta owes me less than 20k, and for what I do, and where I go, I have yet to find another rig that has cost shit loads more that can handle the places I like to play. (those that have been out with Suprasurf and I will testify to this).
Go on a search thru here and other cruiser forums and you will find all sorts of cheap tricks that work great. Save your money for the things that you can't do cheaper your self (ie tyres, traction aids, gearing, etc)

Probably over valued, but my 2c anyway.
